The Lighthouse At The Cove by Amy Clipston - Two Stars ⭐⭐ After her car breaks down in a small coastal town, reporter Kaiah finds herself falling in love with both the town and a single dad in this too simple to be satisfying romance. There are many elements in this book that will appeal to readers of inspirational romance: a small-town setting, a widowed single dad hero who is also a firefighter, his precocious six-year-old daughter, a community banding together to raise money to revitalize both a school and an old lighthouse, and even a golden retriever thrown in for good measure. Which is all fine, in theory, but I found it all to be rather surface-level cuteness with little substance or real meaning to anything that would make it feel real. Like when Kaiah would talk about how much she loved the town and how great it was before she had even walked around in it. Kaiah's love story with Reid was cute, but also underdeveloped. The audiobook narration did not improve the experience due to the narrator's one-note acting and poor ability to do a variety of voices. The voice she did for the hero, Reid. sounded unconvincing, and the one she did for his six-year-old daughter, Piper, was even more so. I did enjoy some of the funny little moments in the book though.
