As I'm getting back into client work I always love dreaming up little vignettes of a few characters for the portfolio. I imagined a young shepherd who accidentally awakens a troll and the two become friends. Another sky pirate captain! I want to design her ship so bad! I wonder what it will look like! I’ve been working on this style for a few months trying to get it feeling solid. Prepping for an indie game illustration crunch I’ll be doing soon and I’m getting more and more hyped! I’ve never had to do 50+ illustrations all in one style before so it’s going to be intense!

Knight for today! Recently pondering on what "finished" means to me. I think it's super easy to get caught up in the process of "finishing" a drawing. When drawing this funky walking knight I really enjoyed the final process of laying down the highlights and textures, but when all was said and done, the simple line-work overtop a loose sketch on a blue background was my favorite, funnily the blue background was only there because I was selecting outside of the lifework in #procreate and just liked the look of the blue selection. Sky pirates are once again the subject of my focus prepping for my next costume design course in a month. After working on this on and off for a year I've figured out the world really wants to be a video game and not an animation, so I've been going over gameplay and working with concept sketches to ping pong ideas back and forth between art/design and gameplay/game mechanics. Starting with free sketch portraits is my favorite way to develop the foundation for whatever project I'm working on. Something about getting so specific so early gives me the opportunity to set rules for the world really efficiently and find what I like super quickly. 10/10 would recommend. #conceptart #characterdesign #digitalsketchbook #digitalart #sketch by @cluelessgabriel

Can anyone help with name ideas for these guys? I designed these adventurers in between freelance gigs recently. I find it helps having a personal piece to noodle on during breaks from the intense onslaught of client work. Hoping I can be more active online with other artists and the wonderful community on here. Taking long breaks from social media has been good, but I feel like sharing work is such an important part of being an artist for me, and I’m feeling the absence.
