See you there potheads! by @cma.ceramics

recap of my first market and one of my top goals for 2023 🥲 taking my work out of this little studio and into a room full of strangers and incredibly talented vendors was scary to say the least, but also the most rewarding experience during my time as an artist. thank you to everyone who stopped by, chatted, purchased, or supported in any way — yall cleaned me out! cheers to crossing off goals (even if cutting it verrrry close) and to more in-person events in 2024 😊🥂 💫 @refinecltv @saltshedchicago 🙏🏼

deeep in my autumn feels with this bud vase trio 〰️ I’ve been experimenting with glazes that add texture and dimension to pieces, and love how the buds bring out the different colors and shadows on each piece 🍂🍁 dried stems from @sprouthomechicago, obviously 😍

welcoming summer and putting my first pedestal platter to use! 🍋🍋🍋

to make this piece I threw a shallow bowl followed by a tall conical cylinder, and then attached the two. this piece was so fun to make and I can guarantee that you’ll be seeing a lotttt more variations of these over here 😊

snack bowls, jewelry bowls, face mask bowls, kitchen catch all bowls — you can never have too many everything bowls. my personal favorite way to use them is for the most extra mise en place 🤌🏼👩🏻‍🍳 what are you putting in them?!

a peek inside my april clay for a day workshop! this 3 hour session is offered every third friday as a part of @bridgeportartcenter’s Open Studios and is the perfect introduction to wheelthrowing without the commitment that comes with an 8 week course. expect prepped clay, hands on guidance, and 2-3 of your very own pieces that are trimmed, glazed and ready for pickup the following third friday. did i mention it’s BYOB? 🥂 who will i see in may?! sign up via link in bio 😊

** note: this workshop is also offered every first friday, but I do not teach those classes. make sure you note which class you are signed up for!

#humpday means a practice session throwing off the hump!
🐪 this method of throwing saves time by using the same mound of centered clay to make multiple pieces
🐪 it’s good for smaller forms and for repeating the same motions over and over again (in this case 6x)
🐪 I didn’t end up saving any of these pieces but practice makes (imperfectly) perfect 👐🏽🔁

blates? plowls? plate-bowls? platesthatlooklikebowls? bowlsthatlooklikeplates? we may never agree on what they’re called, but we can definitely agree that they’re the best shape to eat from 🍝

every time I get a set of perfectly stacked set of plates I feel like the stars have aligned ✨ making multiples of anything by hand in ceramics is not easy. it’s frustratingly difficult. you can weigh clay down to the gram, measure height, width, and depth each time, but the slightest inconsistencies will lead to variation. you have to consider the position of your hands, they pressure you apply, how the clay will shrink, if you’re trimming off the same amount of clay across pieces, how a 1 second difference in glaze will affect the outcome, and so much more. molds and jigger arms were created to make mass quantities perfectly, but there’s something rhythmic about truly doing it by hand.
〰️
I have learned to embrace and appreciate the handmade differences but every so often… your mechanics pay off and a perfect stack is born, which is something I can promise you I will never ever get over 🤩
