Austin Ridge Riders was proud to support National Walk Bike Roll to School Day, represented by our VP Cullen McMorrow, who is also a Safe Route to Schools Coordinator for Reilly Elementary PTA.

We had over 120 riders and pedestrian students & parents, with 59 student raffle entries and 9 winners of prizes like bicycle locks and helmets. Plus plenty of free sticker packs, sticker-reflectors, reflective leg bands, and bike-cargo pouches.

Thank you to our parent ride leaders Kaya, Jenna, Carl, Ben, and Diana; and sponsors Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, Empire BMX, The Peddler Bike Shop, Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club, Austin Youth Fitness, David Phillips Foundation, and City of Austin’s “Get There ATX” Program.

Walnut Creek Trail Steward, Cullen McMorrow, took advantage of the wet dirt and pulled together a crew to make some massive improvements to the Powerline Flow Berms next to the regional trail. Once this dirt has a chance to settle, this section of trail is going to rip! Happy Earth Day 🌎

Here’s a peek at of our organizations’ history from over a decade ago, and the construction of Juniper Ridge trail at Pedernales Falls State Park! Join us this Friday 11/7 for a Trail Crew workday with lead architect and builder of this trail, our President, Charlie Riou! Our focus will be riding and trimming the corridor as needed. PLEASE RSVP (link in bio) if you can make it. We look forward to seeing you there!

Pedernales Falls State Park is over 5000 acres, located about an hour west of Austin. It has more than 20 miles of trail with beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. More than 10 years ago, Charlie Riou, ARR President, was the lead designer/builder of Juniper Ridge Trail and the western most mile of Madrone Trail at Pedernales Falls State Park (PFSP). The project’s beginning started with a conversation with PFSP staff at a mountain biking event at Big Bend Ranch State Park, then a site visit on bikes with Texas Parks and Wildlife. PFSP was eager to build trails, to establish that the entire 5000+ acres was being used by the park and not available for sale as surplus state property! 🧠
