Well, it wasn’t really the plan (do I have one?) to own a Cap 10BK but here we are. No. 57. Maybe a little instruction, maybe fly a contest or two, teach my kid some aerobatics…. just a fun aeroplane. Not the typical trainer we see in North America. Cool airplane. taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @cmhbaxter

Well, they actually invited me back. I spent the first part of the week coaching an aerobatic training camp at KCVO in Corvallis, OR. It was busy… 12 pilots, 3 fifteen minute flights per day each for three days. It wasn’t an ideal format because I never really left the line to brief with people but I think we made it work. One day I ended up coaching 22 different pilots, several multiple times, through 41 different fifteen minute slots. Thankfully the weather was nice and somehow I managed to avoid burning myself to a crisp. It was exhausting but rewarding. Thanks to Matt and @nevins6 for support on the line and dealing with CTAF.

I then loitered around to judge the Corvallis Corkscrew contest which is always an excellent contest and a great time. Quick shout out to @aviatrixstaci who was my assistant judge only a month ago while learning Aresti and somehow managed to expertly play announcer all day on each contest day… be careful what you show you are good at!

Photo is of @alex_tally in a 330SC that already is well acquainted with the KCVO box!

Somebody asked me what it was like judging people I just coached and I facetiously said it was just one disappointment after another. In reality it is super rewarding. taken in Corvallis, Oregon by @cmhbaxter

Haha… looks like I’d better make a not-so-quick post!

Yes, I sold my 330SC.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I haven’t been flying it enough. I was generally showing up at contests not as prepared or as sharp as I wanted to be. Looking back, it wasn’t really a lack of time as much as a shift in priorities. Practicing simply hasn’t been one of them for the past couple of years.

Airplanes are meant to be flown, and it didn’t make sense to have that much hardware sitting idle. So I made the decision to let the airplane go.

Congratulations, @rp_flying on the new ride. It’s a fantastic example of an amazing machine, and I’m sure it will give you many years of learning, growth, and enjoyment—however far you choose to take it.

As for what’s next for me, we’ll see. I still own a DHC-1 Chipmunk and plan to compete in Advanced this fall in the same GB1 I flew a couple of years ago in Unlimited (thanks again to @skybolt15 ). After that, time will tell.

In the meantime, I’ll still be around—coaching (Corvallis this week), helping others on their aerobatic journey, and being part of the community. by @cmhbaxter

Was a little behind on exercising airplanes so that’s what I did over the last couple of days. Three similar but different types, all from different decades. taken in Boundary Bay Airport by @cmhbaxter

Just back from a full civilian role at the Apple Cup as a judge, gofer and all around giver of questionable coaching advice. As always @iac_67 did a great job. The weather was fantastic and unlike other years sitting out in the middle of an abandoned asphalt runway in the searing heat, I didn’t find myself questioning my life choices. It was a great time.

The pic is of my first aerobatic airplane, the mighty Pitts. Feels like it has been a minute since those days. That berm in the background is a row of large hangars now.

I’m not sure whether there is a better airplane to cut your aerobatic teeth on.

Next camp for me is as a coach in Corvallis in July. Can’t wait.

Shout out to @gofullturbo and @erle235 for helping transport my (live) body down to central Washington to retrieve our truck. It wasn’t the most pleasant weather, hanging out in the white room getting jostled around at record ground speeds due to a stiff headwind (~40 knots at 4,000’), but it was fun nonetheless. The drive home was… something I’m thankful I don’t do very often. Pic is of the Extra while juggling gear around at the hangar… taken in Boundary Bay Airport by @cmhbaxter

Taxiing out with my daughter for her first flight in the Chipmunk (113-151). Yes, her hair was purple. When I asked her what she wanted to see on the flight she said clouds. Was a perfect day for it. Moist stable air, thin layers, blue bird above… chased our shadow around, crashed into it a few times, rainbow around the shadow the whole time (Brocken spectre). Successful mission.

The building was a part of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and was used to monitor Soviet communications during the Cold War. I’m guessing the environmental remediation bill would be such that it will get left alone for quite a while… interesting bit of history though. taken in Boundary Bay Airport by @cmhbaxter

Flight in the Cap10 today. A few circuits confirmed that the recent gear work has improved the ground handling by a lot (I was definitely wondering what normal was…). Went out to work on hammers which I hadn’t quite sorted out given limited time trying; even got a few to go OK to the right. Cap10’s are great airplanes. After months of rain the sun finally shows… only to have the fog roll in and out. Anyway, was able to sneak out of @czbbairport in the @game_aerospace GB1 this week for a look around. Forgive the pic, a couple of years old, from a flight with @thegetawayfilms and @fraserbrittonphoto @gofullturbo @aaronnathanson @rimes_brothers_adv in 2024. The kid in the front is now noticeably bigger…. taken in Widgeon Lake by @cmhbaxter
