Backyard phototoshoot…

I just got my first nd-filter for my 18-45mm lens, and now I can finally take low f-stop level photos without the sun destroying the photo. I also just got Adobe Lightroom and these are my first manually edited photos!

The same stars that have guided people for centuries…

These photos capture a few of the constellations visible from Hawaii’s night skies, including the Big Dipper, Leo, Crater & Corvus, and Libra & Scorpius. Long before modern navigation, constellations helped people track seasons, tell stories, and find their way across land and sea. Looking up today, we’re still seeing many of the same patterns that people have recognized for thousands of years.

A view that’s hard to forget…

These photos were taken from Haleakalā, the massive shield volcano that rises more than 10,000 feet above Maui. Its high elevation, dry air, and distance from major city lights make it one of the best places in Hawaii to experience the night sky. On a clear night, the Milky Way stretches across the sky in a way that’s difficult to capture, and even harder to describe.

Where destruction creates something new…

The Big Island is constantly being shaped by volcanic activity. These photos feature black sand beaches, hardened lava fields, and views from Hawaii’s active volcanoes. The most destructive recent lava flow began during Kīlauea’s 2018 eruption, which covered more than 14 square miles of land and destroyed over 700 homes in the Puna District. Even today, the eruption remains one of the most significant volcanic events in Hawaii’s modern history, permanently reshaping parts of the island and the lives of many residents.

It’s a sign…

If you’ve spent time exploring Hawaii, you’ve probably noticed street signs covered in stickers. While some see it as vandalism, it’s also become a form of self-expression, with locals, artists, businesses, visitors, and communities leaving their mark. The trend became so common that some locations have even installed designated “sticker signs” to keep stickers off official signs. Green pt. 2…

Hawaii’s culture has been shaped by people from all over the world, including a large Japanese community whose influence can still be seen across the islands today. Many of these photos were taken at Liliʻuokalani Gardens, a Japanese-style garden that reflects that connection and highlights another side of Hawaii beyond its beaches and resorts.
