“The road ahead will be difficult”
That was what the abbot told me during a random cycling route

Tuy Hòa, to me, is a true hometown. I’ve ridden here many times along its coastal roads—routes I can confidently say are among the coastlines you must experience at least once in your life

This time, following a few recommended spots, I decided to set a route in the opposite direction. I even selected options that prioritized gravel and maximized elevation gain

After 20 km of flat road, the first—and almost the only—major climb hit me hard. It was a full ascent from sea level to nearly 500 meters. At the top, I stopped at Trúc Lâm Zen Monastery to rest for a bit. That’s where the first twist happened

From behind, the abbot approached, holding some snacks and ginseng candy. He handed them to me and said:
“The road ahead will be difficult”., chatting for a while, I learned that he had spent most of his youth in the U.S. He shared stories about hiking the Grand Canyon, exploring Nevada, and even swimming with whales—his eyes full of spirit, he used to be a bikepacker too, riding across different states, so we had so much in common to talk about

I continued into the rolling and downhill sections. Choosing maximum gravel made all the difference, I was rewarded with views of small villages, cornfields, and winding hills before entering a downhill section averaging 8%, covered entirely in rocks and sand

The road was under construction, being carved into the mountain, so rerouting was pointless. I just had to commit and “slide down”. Luckily, I didn’t crash into a rock wall or fall off a cliff, which is why I’m still here writing this

Just when I thought things would settle for the final 40 km flat stretch, I received one last “gift”: the signature coastal headwind, the moment I stopped spinning, it felt like I was moving backward

After the ride, I reflected on it and realized how true the abbot’s words were

I’ve done many 100 km rides before, but this one, a true “blind box” route, i have conquered my own Grand Canyon

Looking back on last weekend’s @pasnormalstudios ‘s Midsummer Challenge 26, I can still vividly remember how my skin burned under the harsh midday sun in the Mekong Delta, and how the heat from the road traveled straight through the bars into my hands

Each year brings a different kind of challenge. This time, @enjoyrealride ’s test wasn’t about speed, but about endurance—how well we could sustain our effort, handle the intense heat, and push through mentally.

Everything felt under control for me… until around kilometer 122. That was when my body started to give warning signs—I felt off, overwhelmed, and just wanted to lie down right there. Looking back, it was likely the result of a 12-hour drive combined with only 1.5 hours of sleep. I made the call to stop and give my body the rest it needed.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group kept their momentum, pushing all the way to the final kilometers together. I truly respect their effort and mindset.

It may not have been a complete Midsummer for me personally, but it was still a meaningful experience. Big respect to everyone who joined this challenge, and thanks to ERR and @byd_oway for creating a challenge that gave us such memorable moments together!

For me, Leica isn’t the camera that produces the most beautiful images—it’s the one that brings out the strongest emotions every time I pick it up.

This morning, during a meeting for a new project, I had the chance to hold a Leica Q2 owned by a friend, and that familiar feeling came rushing back once again.

Why “once again”?
When I first stepped into the photography industry, I had always wanted to own a Leica, just to experience the “feeling” people often talked about. Later on, when I finally had the chance to own two Leica cameras—an SL and a Q1—I truly understood. Every time I picked them up, that emotion would rise vividly. It made me fall deeper in love with this craft, with the beauty and emotion in every frame. It made me want to go further, shoot more, and enjoy having the camera with me every single day.

There were times when work, deadlines, and client briefs completely overshadowed the reason I started this journey. But somehow, after each of those phases, Leica would reappear in the most unexpected way—helping me “reset” my energy.

To me, “photographer” and “camera operator” are two clearly hierarchical concepts, yet I don’t see myself fitting into either. Simply put, I’m just someone who loves taking photos—and my images are how I see the world.

THIS IS NOT an Epic ride - It’s a F*cking Hot one.

It feels like a mind game choosing heat training in 40°C, head-splitting weather. I went all in and picked the 8 AM to 3 PM to maximize the heat effect. Riding on blazing white asphalt, constantly getting chills while my body’s overheating, and even the sarcastic comments from passersby couldn’t distract me. I was way too busy dealing with my body just trying to survive that insane heat.

This ride is all about gearing up for the upcoming Pas Normal Studios Midsummer Challenge this June, so everyone, don’t skip your heat training.

Beyond The Ride
It was a journey to take in one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Vietnam - Cà Ná. 100km of relentless headwind and continuous climbs pushed both legs and willpower to the limit, but the reward was the endless blue of the sea, the coastal sun and wind, and moments that can never be repeated…

Amid the exhaustion and salty sweat, what lingered most were the laughs, the shared companionship, and the sense of freedom that comes from overcoming everything together — as one
