Thank you for Bridger Nelson for showcasing his work in the Then & Now Postcard Challenge to celebrate our history and all things @co150sw

The Then & Now Postcard Challenge invited students across La Plata County to re-photograph historic regional locations to celebrate Colorado’s 150th anniversary.

The works were initially displayed at the @durangopubliclibrary and then the Bayfield Library. This project was an exciting way for La Plata County youth to explore Colorado’s unique history by capturing new images from historic photographs. taken in Durango Public Library by @co150sw

The Cowboy Parade is the largest and most spectacular event in the Durango Cowboy Gathering. Historic wagons and carriages, fashionable ladies and gents dressed in period costumes, buckaroos on stick horses, dancers, walkers and lots of horses, mules and burros make this parade a family favorite.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Durango Cowboy Gathering a huge success.

Y’all, this was unreal!! Having an amazing drone show light up the sky while hot air balloons glowed in the background was something that we certainly won’t forget.

A huge thank you to Brightflight Drone Shows for putting it together, and to Stories in the Sky, a Signature Initiative of the America 250 - Colorado 150 Commission, along with Chevron, Tallgrass, UCHealth, the Colorado Lottery, and the Colorado Tourism Office for helping bring it to Pagosa and Colorfest!

Join us at the @animasmuseum on Saturday, October 10th at 1pm to celebrate 100 years of the US Highway System and @co150sw by listening to a talk from Mick Souder, a “road geek” who has been studying the development of the national highway system since he was 7 years old.

Mick will review how the US highway system developed in the 1920s, focusing on US 550 and its evolution from Otto Mears’ scary toll road to the scenic wonder it is today. There is no charge for this event. taken in The Animas Museum by @co150sw

Thank you to everyone who rolled through town for Bayfield Heritage Days over the weekend. The annual Bayfield Heritage Days and Sheep Trailing event commemorates this special time of year for area ranchers and honors the rural lifestyle our beautiful town of Bayfield was built upon. It was a beautiful day in the park in downtown Bayfield as we celebrated Bayfield’s history and @co150sw taken in Bayfield, Colorado by @co150sw

Celebrate @co150sw and explore “Constellations of Place” in the @centerswstudiesflc at @fortlewiscollege now through December 18, 2026.

The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College has produced a visually stunning exhibition rooted in the landscapes and layered histories of Southwest Colorado. Constellations of Place features a selection of over 60 textiles, pottery, beadwork, 2D works, and mixed-media pieces from the Center’s permanent collections, alongside the work of 13 invited contemporary Native American, Indigenous, and Latinx artists. The exhibition, running throughout 2026, was guest-curated by scholar, writer, and independent curator Dr. Meranda Roberts.

This exhibition is a collaborative project between the Center of Southwest Studies, Department of Reconciliation, and Four Corners Bridging Institute at Fort Lewis College, and the result of over a year of planning, listening sessions, and research. Constellations of Place is made possible with generous support from the Belonging Colorado initiative of The Denver Foundation and the Greater Good Science Center, and is in partnership with the America 250-Colorado 150 Southwest regional “Power of Place” initiative. taken in Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College by @co150sw

“Space Cowboy” is a statewide touring project connecting Colorado’s frontier identity to its aerospace future — in every region, every corridor, every community.

Currently you can experience “Space Cowboy” at the @dancingspiritignacio in Ignacio, CO. The exhibit is free to experience, and you can leave a special message for the world.

Space Cowboy is a large-scale traveling exhibition that creates a high-engagement public experience wherever it lands — drawing community members in through fiber art, live story collection, and programming that connects Colorado’s frontier identity to its aerospace future.

Space Cowboy is the latest project from @dundeeandlee — the team behind Goodnight Moon: A Fiber Tale, a 500 sq ft fiber art installation of the beloved children’s book.

Community voices are archived through , and woven into the exhibition itself — creating a living record that grows with every stop. Over four years, Space Cowboy is estimated to reach 37,000 Coloradans across every economic region, scenic corridor, and creative district in the state.

Space Cowboy launches at the Annual Summit in Trinidad, June 3, 2026 — at the heart of the Santa Fe Trail corridor in Southeast Colorado, the first stop on a four-year statewide journey. taken in Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts by @co150sw
