I donโ€™t work out just to look a certain way. I work out because I know what it feels like to rely on your body as an athlete โ€” and now, as a volleyball coach and kinesiology student, I want the athletes I work with to understand that too. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ As a former college volleyball athlete and someone pursuing my kinesiology degree at CSUB, Iโ€™ve learned to appreciate my body for so much more than how it looks. I know thereโ€™s a generation growing up feeling like they need to be skinny to be beautiful, fit, or athletic. And while Iโ€™m not here to tell anyone how they should eat, train, or look โ€” what I do isnโ€™t perfect, and Iโ€™m certainly not trying to prescribe one way of doing things โ€” I do feel strongly about encouraging the girls I coach to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. I want them to understand that their bodies arenโ€™t something they need to shrink. Theyโ€™re something they can learn to understand, strengthen, and trust. Itโ€™s okay to want to feel strong. Itโ€™s okay to take up space. Itโ€™s okay to have muscle. Itโ€™s okay for your body to change as you grow. Especially for young athletes, I want fitness to be about what your body can do, not just what it looks like. I coach girls ages 12โ€“16, and one of the biggest things I hope to teach them โ€” both on and off the court โ€” is to feel good in their own skin and appreciate their bodies for everything they allow them to do. Because being an athlete was never about being skinny. Itโ€™s about being strong, capable, confident, and comfortable in the body you have. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ by @coach__avery
