Coaching has given me more joy than I could ever fully explain. Every generation before you left something behind—their fight, their sacrifices, their love for the game—and because of them, the next group had something to stand on. To the younger generation, that means the challenge is now yours to accept. Honor what came before you, but have the courage to build something of your own. More than anything, I hope basketball gives you joy, confidence, lifelong friendships, and memories that stay with you long after the gym gets quiet. Wins will fade, seasons will end, and jerseys will eventually be put away, but the way this game shaped you—and the way you shaped each other—can stay with you forever.

When I look back on my journey in basketball, I realize how fortunate I’ve been to coach this game at nearly every level—from the NBA to college, high school, and all the way down to youth basketball. Each level has brought its own challenges and rewards, but one thing has always remained the same: my love for teaching the game and helping people grow through it.
I’ve never measured success solely by championships, trophies, or records. To me, success has always been about the lives I’ve been able to impact. Every player I’ve coached, every family I’ve met, and every lesson I’ve had the privilege to share has shaped me just as much as I hope I’ve shaped them.
I am incredibly grateful for every opportunity this game has given me. Basketball has taken me places I never imagined, introduced me to unforgettable people, and taught me lessons that extend far beyond the court. It has been one of the greatest blessings of my life, and I never take that for granted.
As grateful as I am for what I’ve experienced, I also know my journey isn’t finished. I still have a passion to teach, to mentor, and to continue making a difference in the lives of athletes. I want to keep pushing the game forward by helping develop not only better basketball players but better people. If I can leave this game knowing I inspired someone to believe in themselves, work harder, or chase a dream they once thought was impossible, then I’ll consider my career a success.
The game has given so much to me, and because of that, I feel a responsibility to give even more back. My hope is to continue raising the standard, creating opportunities, and leaving a lasting impact on every player, coach, and community I have the privilege to serve.
My legacy won’t be defined only by the levels I’ve coached or the games I’ve won. It will be defined by the people I’ve helped, the relationships I’ve built, and the positive mark I’ve left on this game that has given me so much. As long as I have the opportunity, I’ll continue to pour everything I have into basketball and into the people who make this game so special. by @coach_b22

It was good to see some of the older Pirates get it in with the current and newer Pirates. Man, I will say there were some good runs today. #thankful and even more #grateful by @coach_b22

Shout out to my boi @jacksonville_twill for sending me this. It’s crazy to still be in the game. Most importantly, the lessons the game has taught me. The game has taught me to walk with confidence, how to communicate to my peers. It’s taught me to make decisions on the fly, also it taught me to depend on those around me. I may have thought that I could do it all, I quickly learned it was so much better when we did it together. To all the panthers in this picture, I hope all of you are in great health, loving life and passing along the lessons we’ve been taught.

Coaching basketball plays a vital role not only in developing players’ skills but also in shaping who they become as individuals. A coach’s influence extends far beyond the court, impacting the lives of their players in meaningful and lasting ways. On our journey, we often overlook that sometimes we need to be coached ourselves. Sometimes we need to allow others to shape us for us to grow into our own. Sometimes we have to go get new ideas, grab new tools just to help our players become sharper. Sometimes we have to have others sharpen our dull ideas just to remind us that our ideas were never wrong, we just needed reassurance that what you have is exactly what you need.

Our championship game was an unforgettable way to finish our time as varsity 8th graders. Winning back-to-back titles is something we’ll always be proud of, and this second championship means even more knowing it was our last game in middle school. We came out fired up, played as a team, and gave it everything we had. Vista Magnet was a strong opponent and played a great game, but we rose to the challenge and came out on top with a big win. Every pass, every shot, every hustle play showed how much we wanted it. This team is like a family, and to finish our season—and our middle school careers—on such a high note is something we’ll never forget. We’re graduating with a legacy, and we hope we’ve inspired the younger players to keep it going. by @coach_b22

Dear basketball, thank you 🙏🏾. Thank you for providing me a place to get away from life for a moment. You’ve always provided me solace when the waters got rough. You’ve always allow me to use you to block out the things that tend to trouble me. You’ve remained faithful and you’ve allowed me to pour the knowledge you’ve given me into others. You’ve taught me a lot about life, and you’ve taught me that I can still be effective as long as I give the best of me. You’ve taught me to believe when others don’t. You taught me that as fast as we move, sometimes I have to slow down. You taught me that all it takes is just a little bit of patience. You’ve taught me to believe. You’ve taught me in the game of life, you have to play with pace.
