"How long until my athlete gets better?" 🎙️
It's the question every parent asks. And in this clip from the Field Fluid Podcast, Coach Enoch and I give the honest answer:
It depends. And here's what it depends on.
There's no universal number of reps that turns a player into a different athlete. Not 1,000. Not 10,000. Because the number isn't the point — the work behind the number is.
What actually determines how fast an athlete grows:
✅ Whether they work outside of practice. The athlete who only touches the game during scheduled practices grows at one speed. The athlete who takes 15 minutes a day on their own grows at a completely different speed. Two athletes, same talent, same team — six months later they look nothing alike.
✅ The quality of the reps, not just the quantity. 500 reps with bad mechanics doesn't build skill. It builds bad habits. 100 reps with purpose, correction, and feedback builds an infielder.
✅ Whether they love the game. This is the one nobody talks about. The athlete who loves it stays after. Takes the extra rep. Watches film. Asks questions. You can't manufacture that. And it's the single biggest separator in development — because love of the game is what makes the work sustainable.
Here's the truth: the athlete who loves it will out‑work the athlete who's only doing it for someone else. Every time.
So if you want to know how fast your athlete will grow, don't count the reps. Watch the habits.
Do they work when nobody's watching? Do they love being out there? Because those two things will tell you more than any timeline ever could.
👇 Comment "DRILLS" and I'll send you my 10 backyard drills — just need a glove, a ball, and 15 minutes. Pick 3–4 a day and rotate.

Your legs will quit before your glove does. That’s the point. 🧤

This is Wall Sit Ground Balls – and it’s one of the most disciplined drills you can do at home.

Here’s the setup:

Get in a wall sit position – back against the wall, knees bent at 90 degrees, thighs parallel to the ground. Now bounce a ball off the wall in front of you and field it. Over and over.

No standing up. No rest. Just catch play from a wall sit.

Here’s why this drill works:

✅ Leg strength and endurance – your legs are on fire by rep 10. And you still have to field cleanly. That’s the 6th inning. That’s the late‑game play that decides the game.

✅ Catch play discipline – you can’t cheat your posture. You can’t stand up when it gets hard. You have to stay low, stay athletic, and receive the ball properly from a compromised position.

✅ Finding your glove pocket – when your legs are burning, your focus narrows. This drill forces you to feel the ball into the pocket instead of watching it — and that’s exactly what transfers to game speed.

✅ Consistency under fatigue – anybody can field 10 clean reps fresh. How about 25 when your quads are screaming? That’s the separator.

Here’s the thing about the funnel: if you don’t feel the ball out front, you’ll bobble it. Your legs are tired, your hands are working harder, and there’s nowhere to hide. You either funnel it into the pocket or you drop it.

Most infielders never train under physical stress. Then the 6th inning comes and their legs get heavy and the routine play turns into an error.

This drill fixes that.

Try it: 3 sets of 20 reps. Then tell me how your legs feel.

👇 Comment “FUNNEL” and I’ll send you my one‑week funnel fix — bobbled ground balls are almost never the glove. The fix is in there. 10 minutes a day.

🥎 And if you want to train with us, comment or DM “HYBRID” for info on Field Fluid Academy programs.

90% of your infield reps are conditioning in disguise. 🧢
If the rep has no decision in it — no hop to read, no runner to feel, no lane to choose — you’re not developing fielders. You’re just getting them tired.
One variable per rep. That’s it. Speed, angle, situation.
Want 10 drills you can run in the backyard with just a glove, a ball, and 15 minutes? Comment DRILLS and I’ll send them to your DMs.

Talent gets you on the radar. Character keeps you there. 🎙️
In this clip from the Field Fluid Podcast, Coach Enoch and I are talking about something every baseball and softball family needs to hear:
What actually puts you on a scout's or college coach's radar — and what takes you off it.
Here's what most people think matters:
❌ The fastest 60 time
❌ The hardest throw across the diamond
❌ The loudest bat in the lineup
Here's what coaches are actually watching:
✅ The good teammate — first one to pick a guy up after a strikeout, last one to complain about a call
✅ The kid who hustles — sprints to first on a routine grounder, backchecks to the dugout, jogs on and off the field every single time
✅ The kid who handles failure — no throwing the helmet, no sulking, no blaming the ump. Just reset and go again
✅ The kid who's coachable — eyes up when a coach is talking, applies the correction the very next rep
Here's the part parents don't realize:
Scouts and college coaches are watching you when you don't know they're watching. Between pitches. In the dugout. In the parking lot. After the loss.
They're not just evaluating your arm. They're evaluating whether they want you in their program for four years.
The most talented kid in the dugout with a bad attitude gets passed over for the average kid who's a great teammate and grinds every single rep. That happens more than you think.
Because character isn't a soft skill. It's a separator.
👇 Comment "READY" and I'll send you my ready position breakdown — because the kid who's locked in and ready before every pitch is the one coaches notice first.

Your glove is giving you bad hops that don’t need to exist. 🧤
Glove too low? Short hops jump up and eat you. Too far back? You’re late on everything. The fix: glove out front, fingers down, wrist soft — low enough to field it, early enough to adjust.
Think landing pad, not trap. Show it to the ball early. This is the fastest five-minute fix in infield play.
Struggling with bobbled ground balls? It’s almost never the glove — it’s the funnel. Comment FUNNEL and I’ll DM you the one-week fix.

I'm competing against you. And I'm still going to help you. 🎙️
In this clip from the Field Fluid Podcast, Coach Enoch and I are talking about the brotherhood of baseball — and why this game is different from almost any other.
Here's what that looks like:
You're battling for the same position. Same roster spot. Same at‑bats. And when you're done competing, you're the first one to pick the other guy up.
Because that's what this game teaches you:
✅ Competition doesn't mean hatred — iron sharpens iron. The guy pushing you is making you better.
✅ You help your competition — you tell the younger kid the tip that took you three years to learn. Because the game gave it to you, and you give it back.
✅ You celebrate their wins — a teammate's success isn't your loss. There's room for all of you.
✅ You pick each other up — after the error, after the strikeout, after the loss. That's the bond nobody outside the game understands.
You can battle a guy for nine innings and still be the first one to buy him dinner after.
That's not weakness. That's the standard. And it's one of the reasons this game produces better people, not just better players.
The double play is the perfect picture of it. Two guys, one out — you have to trust each other completely in a fraction of a second, or it doesn't work.
👇 Comment "DOUBLEPLAY" and I'll send you my double play timing breakdown — feed, pivot, and the cue that saves you half a second.

Your first step is making you look slow — and it’s not a speed problem. ⚡
Here’s the truth: the best infielders aren’t faster than you. Their first step is FORWARD, not back. That little read step or drop-back at contact? It costs you three steps of range on every ball.
Fix it: on every ball hit in front of you, move forward on contact. Trust your read. If you get beat because you attacked, that’s a coaching point. If you get beat standing still, that’s just being slow.
Want the crossover step breakdown — how shortstops actually get to the ball in the hole? Comment CROSSOVER and I’ll DM it to you.

There’s a difference between solving your athlete’s problems and teaching them to solve their own. 🎙️

In this clip from the Field Fluid Podcast, Coach Enoch and I are talking about something most coaches never think about:

Are you a problem-solving coach or a solution-based coach?

Here’s the difference:

❌ Problem-solving coach – athlete makes a mistake, coach fixes it, athlete moves on. Repeat forever. The athlete learns to wait for instructions.

✅ Solution-based coach – athlete makes a mistake, coach gives them a tool to diagnose it. Now the athlete can recognize the problem, understand why it happened, and fix it themselves.

One creates dependency. The other creates ownership.

We want athletes who can walk off the field and know exactly what went wrong and how to adjust. Not robots waiting for a voice from the dugout.

That’s why we ask questions like:
🔹 “What did you feel on that rep?”
🔹 “What would you do differently next time?”
🔹 “Where do you think your feet were?”

We’re not being difficult. We’re building problem-solvers.

Because the game is going to throw things at your athlete that no coach can prepare them for. The best thing we can give them isn’t an answer – it’s the ability to find one.

Can you control the ball with just your glove? No throwing hand. No help. 🧤

This is Glove Rolls – and it’s one of the best ways to build true ball control inside your pocket.

Here’s the setup:

✅ Set up on two knees

✅ Place three cones out in front of you

✅ Roll the ball in a figure‑8 motion through the cones – controlling it with your glove pocket

That’s it. No throwing hand. Just your glove, the ball, and your control.

Why this drill works:

🔹 Ball control in the pocket – you learn how the ball sits, rolls, and releases from your glove. That feel is everything.

🔹 Glove awareness – most infielders treat the glove like a bucket. This drill makes it a tool.

🔹 Builds soft hands – you can’t force the ball around the cones. You have to guide it smoothly.

🔹 Hand‑eye coordination – tracking the ball through the figure‑8 while staying low and controlled.

🔹 No partner, no wall, no field – just you, a glove, a ball, and three cones.

When you can control the ball inside your glove, everything else gets easier. Cleaner transfers. Softer receiving. More confidence on tough hops.

Try it: 3 sets of 5 figure‑8s each direction. Then try it with your eyes up instead of down.

👇 Comment “ROLLS” and I’ll send you the full Glove Rolls progression – including one‑hand variations and speed challenges.

🥎 And if you want to train with us, comment or DM “HYBRID” for info on Field Fluid Academy programs.
