Stop doing so many cone drills.

I get it, they look good on camera. But cones don’t force real reaction time. They train your feet to hit the same spot every rep instead of training the rhythm and timing that actually shows up on a live ground ball.

Real infield play is about reading the hop and creating angles based on the way the ball is actually hit. by @coach_troy06

Rhythm and timing. If you don’t have them, infield is going to get very hard. ⚾️

Once you move from the 50/70 field to the 90-foot diamond, the infield gets a lot bigger and the throws get a lot longer. Without rhythm and timing, you won’t know how to approach the baseball.

Rhythm and timing aren’t about fancy feet or being light on your feet. They’re about knowing which hop to field and how fast to approach the ball.

Real talk: if you can’t field ground balls on the dirt with rhythm and timing and get an out, swallow your pride. Go play outfield, try catching or try pitching. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

1. Master the boring stuff first
Footwork, short hops, and clean exchanges every day. The best infielders I’ve been around are consistent, not flashy.

2. Learn how to handle failure early
I let one error turn into three when I played. The guys who last at the next level reset fast.

3. Take care of my body like it’s my job
Sleep, eat right, and recover period.

4. Skip the parties
It’s not worth it. You can’t ask your body to perform if you’re not treating it right off the field.

5. Stop chasing stats and just play the game
I worried about my numbers instead of winning the next pitch..Learn to play free

6. Be careful who I surround myself with
Your circle becomes your habits. I’d keep people around me who are chasing the same things I am.

7. Watch film on myself
You can’t fix what you can’t see.

8.Put my identity in Christ, not baseball
The game ends for everyone. When baseball was my whole identity, every 0-for-4 felt like I was failing as a person. Your worth isn’t a sport

9.Enjoy it more
It comes to an end quickly enjoy every moment.. by @coach_troy06

You can’t hit what you can’t see 👀

Most hitters pull their head off the ball without even realizing it. This tee has been fixing that for me. The LED changes color at random, so my eyes have to stay locked in at contact every single rep.

Simple tee work, just with more focus.

Infielders, this is some of the best advice I’ve heard in a while.

Listen to what he’s saying. What pitch is coming, where it’s located, how the hitter’s swing and timing look. Late, early, jammed, out front. Each one tells him where the ball is going and how it’s going to be hit.

That’s how you read the baseball off the bat and make the right decision. Which angle to create. Whether to come get it or stay back. How much time you have.

The sooner you decide, the more the game slows down.

1. No cookie cutting infielders
Every player has his own style, his own rhythm, and his own way of moving. I’m not trying to make everybody look the same. Learn the fundamentals, then play your game.

2. Telling players the mistakes I made so they can skip them
I don’t hide what I got wrong as a player. If my mistakes can save a kid a year of figuring it out alone, they were worth making.

3. Teaching the mental side early, because nobody taught me
I could field a ground ball, but nobody showed me how to handle an error or a bad game. That part gets taught here from day one.

4. Only running drills I can explain the why behind
If a player asks why we’re doing something and I don’t have an answer, it doesn’t belong in my practice. Looking good on camera isn’t a reason.

5. Being the coach I needed when I was playing
Honest, patient, and in your corner even on your worst day. That’s the standard I hold myself to. by @coach_troy06

Confessions of an infield coach: I haven’t changed many of my drills in the last 10 years.

Same 20–25. Over and over.

Not because I ran out of ideas. Because new drills don’t make infielders better all the time. Becoming a better decision maker does.

When the drill stays the same, the player stops thinking about the drill and starts thinking about the ball. The read. The hop. Their internal clock. Where should they throw the ball and from what arm angle.

That’s the job. I’m not trying to build guys who look good in a drill. I’m trying to build infielders who make the right decision time and time again by @coach_troy06

These are some of my favorite pieces of advice for baseball parents and coaches. 👇

Dads: your son already has coaches. He only has one dad.

Coaches: your players notice how you react to every strikeout and every error.

The fastest way to make a kid fall out of love with this game is to make every at-bat feel like a test he has to pass for you.

Let him fail. Let him bring it up first. Correct when the time is right, and make sure he knows he matters more than the stat line. by @coach_troy06
