On Saturday, our Chief Running Officer + New York City native, Terence Gerchberg, joined our longtime partners at @nyrr and leaders across the NYC running community for the second annual HSS/NYRR Runner Health & Performance Symposium.

During a segment called “Inspiring Stories from the Road: How Running Transforms Our World View”, Terence (@coachamazing) spoke to how running can be a catalyst for building a better path forward. He shared how Back on My Feet uses running as a foundation from which our members work toward employment, housing & greater independence.

The day brought together experts and advocates to explore running from every angle—from health and performance to its ability to connect people and transform lives. Thank you, New York Road Runners and @hspecialsurgery, for putting on this event and continuing to recognize just how powerful a run can be. 💪 by @coachamazing

In a surprising move, past Shelby winner Terence Gerchberg (@coachamazing) of @backonmyfeet awarded Joe Gordon of UpFor Consulting this week’s honor.

The main reason? Joe’s business commercial resonated personally with Terence.

As Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Earlier this morning, Joe gave the Educational Minute about “expectancy bias” — how a person’s beliefs and expectations can impact reality. It should be noted that in 2018, Joe ran the @nycmarathon on behalf of Back on My Feet, raising over $50K (a record).

Running saved my life!!! Never in my wildest dreams would I ever think that running would change the trajectory of my life, become a source of income, give me a positive outlet and introduced me to the most amazing humans. Thank you @coachcane @ramonbermo & @shoe4africa for being there in 2002, for my first @nycmarathon . Over the past quarter century, I’ve had the honor of motivating and being motivated by this incredible community.
