It is with great sadness we inform you’ll of the passing of 15yr old Makai Green.

Makai was part of our Coolidge family and the Kennedy Recreation Center community. Makai excelled in athletics under the tutelage of Coach Goodall (Coolidge Grad & Asst Coach) and many other great men who volunteered to be staples in the Kennedy Recreation Center community and Ward 5 Warriors organization.

Makai’s freshman year he helped our JV basketball team win its FIRST championship under Coach Jeremy Underwood. Makai we thank you for giving us an opportunity to coach and mentor you in this short time.

We send prayer to his mom @bigkiwi_2u and his entire family. This time is tough and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

What an episode.

The feedback we’ve been getting from this one has been real—and that’s because the conversation was real.

I’m grateful to Coach Leon and Coach Durkey for pulling up, and even more respect to them for bringing their sons, Jackson Waddy and DJ Washington Jr., and being willing to have an honest, transparent conversation on camera.

We talked about the truth behind father-son relationships. Not just on the court or the field—but what it looks like off of it. Because the reality is… that dynamic can either strengthen your bond or slowly break it if you’re not intentional.

Conversations like this are needed.

As men, we’re taught to be tough, to be guarded. But the truth is, every stage of life requires something different from you as a father, as a mentor, as a man. Sometimes strength looks like vulnerability.

And putting that on camera? That’s not easy.

We took a deep dive into the mistakes dads can make while trying to develop their kids in sports—and how those moments can impact the relationship at home.

Sometimes it’s not about what you say… it’s how you say it.
And over time, those reactions can create distance.

Now the kid is hesitant… quiet… even scared to open up—
when dad is supposed to be their first source of guidance, trust, and support.

Sports should build the relationship, not break it.

Real conversation about accountability, communication, and keeping the father-son bond bigger than the game.

The car ride home hits different…

After a big game or a tough one, that space can either build the bond or slowly break it. As fathers, it’s easy to slip into “coach mode,” but moments like these remind us the relationship comes first—father before anything else.

Real, honest conversation about perspective, emotions, and keeping the main thing the main thing. Nothing but respect for the transparency from everyone involved.

Since my boy was 5yrs old @coach_lu & @coachkw5w said he was special with the football. Today they’re DCIAA Turkey Bowl champions at my Alma mater 🐎 🏈

Super Proud Dad moment for me, and I’m glad Dru got to witness his brother make plays to help us dominate the 2nd half!
