Unless you are a coach you will never understand the impact that a picture like this can have. I’m grown enough to say that there were a few tears shed in this moment but we also had a smile or two. This moment right here was me getting onto Amontre for what he said to me after the loss to CE King. It was a selfish response but it was also one that I know he said out of frustration. I knew his intent and I knew what he was trying to tell me and I knew his heart was hurting because he always wanted to bring a title home to SC. I’ve known this young man since he was in 7th grade. I had him in the weight room over the summers, watched him play junior high football, and got to coach him for four years. This year I wasn’t his coach in practice or on the field but I was his coach through phone calls and text messages. This young man had added grey hairs to my head and face but through it all he was like a son to me. I love him like he was my own kid and I would do anything within my power for him. I’m proud of the young man he has become and I will always have his back. I miss coaching football and I miss these one on one talks with my guys after practice, after a win and after a lose. They make me better as a man and as a coach. They mean more to me than anyone will ever be able to understand. He is graduating early and will be at SMU next spring and I can’t wait to see what he does in college. I will always be their coach not only in football but in life and it’s moments like these that remind me why I love being a coach and why I spent all the hours I did coaching. I love being a strength coach and working with all the teams that I do but I miss the moments on the field with my guys. I’m good at what I do and while I may not be the best at it; I have found a way to make my guys believe that I’m the best football coach and strength coach. I needed this picture to remind me that I can’t change who I am. I am who I am for a reason and GOD has given me this gift for a reason. This reminds me to always be me no matter what and right now I need this reminder with the things that are going on in life. by @coachjustice
