For University of Michigan Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico, promoting heart health is personal.

“I lost my brother at a young age because of a cardiac episode,” she shared.

Coach Barnes Arico urges people to know their important health numbers: cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI).

“Knowing your personal risks means you have a better chance of preventing heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular conditions.”

Coach Barnes Arico is part of the Go Red for Women Hearts on the Court Collective. This season, women’s basketball coaches nationwide are teaming up with the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement to raise awareness about women’s heart health.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women.
