We are all heartbroken to share that this morning we lost Heather’s mom, Colleen, after a lengthy illness. While we knew this day would eventually come, there is simply no way to fully prepare yourself for the loss of someone who has meant so much to so many.

Colleen was deeply loved by her family and blessed with so many wonderful friendships throughout her life. She was a very special part of our family, and we are incredibly grateful for the memories, laughter, love, and time we were fortunate enough to share with her. Her presence in our lives cannot be replaced, and the absence she leaves behind will be felt more than words can express.

Today, we take comfort in knowing how deeply she was loved and that the impact she made on the people around her will live on through the countless memories and stories we will continue to share.

She will undoubtedly be missed, remembered often, and loved always.

We will plan a celebration of Colleen’s life where family and friends can come together to remember her, share stories, and honor a life that meant so much to all of us. We will make those details public as soon as they are available.

For now, we simply ask that you keep our family, especially Mike, Heather, Velmore, Lora, and Caroline along with all those who loved Colleen in your thoughts as we grieve this tremendous loss. ❤️ by @coachlong20

There’s a lot of PRIDE in the details. @rawlingssg #heartofthehide fully customized by @rece_long09 has the high school colors with an American flag 🇺🇸 proudly displayed on the outside finger. With his name on the thumb side and a tribute to the mascot “Chesty” running down the pinky, Rece had worked on this for the past year after visiting the @rawlings.experience.stl last summer. All this bullcrap aimed at Andy Reid but nothing about being pissed at the player being disciplined. The player broke the rules and let his team down and put them at risk. Focus there. Focusing on a coach doing his job and demanding accountability is stupidity. by @coachlong20

I told @rece_long09 that @melvincounciljr released his schools and said there was an announcement tomorrow morning. He was like… “I hate those schools. I’m unfollowing him if he goes to any of those.” I told him it may be a classic troll and he said “Hopefully, cause those suck!” 😂 by @coachlong20

The season began with @rece_long09 visiting @kubaseball alum @ryanzeferjahn13 at spring training in Arizona and today… he picked up the save and pitched our favorite team @cubs into the playoffs for the second consecutive year!!! This past Saturday, we gathered at Fredrikson Chapel on the campus of Ottawa University to celebrate the life of Colleen.

Our family is incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us for the service, reached out, provided dinners, sent messages, offered prayers, or simply kept our family in your thoughts over these past few weeks. The love and support we have received during such a difficult time have brought us more comfort than we can adequately express.

A special thank you to @amy.mc.3114 and Ottawa University for graciously allowing us to use the beautiful chapel and for providing the sound support that helped make the celebration so special.

We are also incredibly thankful to @amy_r_richardson and @exclusiveselfco for the beautiful flowers that adorned the altar, and to @joegreemore for officiating the celebration and helping us honor Colleen’s life in such a meaningful way.

Finally, our sincere appreciation goes to Sean and everyone at Dengel & Son Mortuary for their compassion, guidance, and care throughout the planning process and during these difficult days.

It is impossible to say goodbye to someone who meant so much to our family and to so many others. But Saturday reminded us just how many lives Colleen touched and how deeply she was loved.
