What IS online coaching?

I always get asked, “are you going to watch me train for an hour via zoom?”

It sounds counterintuitive to me, since the whole point of online is the flexibility of it.

Now full disclosure, I used to do things differently and hated everything about it -
• the minimum 3-month up front
• putting pressure on you to sign up on a call
• texting you daily in the name of “accountability”
• one rigid method
• negative reinforcement

That felt misaligned with me.
Coaching should be built on trust, on collaboration, on empowering you to reach your goals.

Sure, you might’ve tried eating before training, but the food didn’t sit right that one time and now you swear off any food in you.

But your body needs the energy push hard at the gym. And that comes with knowing how and when to fuel it well so you can have quality sets.

Here are some small things that help my health and wellbeing during this journey.

I am all about saving mental load by limiting decision fatigue. Good thing is I’ve had this structure of meals put in practice for a good few years. So the transition from what I normally eat to what I need to eat during this time felt pretty seamless.

Getting cancer and having shit happen doesn’t mean you quit on your coach. She’s a reminder that you deserve care in the smallest of ways. You’re in the driver’s seat, not your emotions.

Goal now is to maintain muscle mass and prevent further bone density loss by keeping up with my training, albeit dialled way back.

Keeping my snacks simple. Granted I still go for my popcorn and sometimes I eat what my heart wants but most of the time I keep it to functional snacks (aka Greek yogurt pots, fruits, dark chocolate, ninja creami)

If you have any recs for mystery, crime, dark comedy/comedy, action, send them thru. I will watch when my cat decides to get off the screen

I’m not as objectively strong as I used to be.
No heavy deadlifts, repping out pull ups, bench more than my weight, or heavy ass squats.

Do I feel sad about it? Sometimes. That was a cool era.

But does it mean I’m weaker? In some ways, sure. Yet I’ve gained so much more strength and resilience since then.

Things beyond your control will happen. That doesn’t mean you’re back to square one. You’re not weak for needing to slow down to match the season.

You get to choose how the rest of the narrative is gonna go. All it matters is how you choose to show up today. by @coachnixw

You can tell how much shit someone goes through and the way they choose to deal with it based on how much appreciation they have for the most mundane things. by @coachnixw

You get judged for living a life of devotion to yourself

Until something like this happens

Then you realise all the little gym sessions, little no’s you say, the simple meals you choose, the socials you leave early, the early mornings you choose to wake up for, the energy vampires you stop hanging out with

They all give you an advantage. by @coachnixw

People think surrendering means giving up,
When in the spiritual sense it is to let go of who you believe yourself to be (the could’s, should’s, self-image), and trust that in all fear, frustration, anger and anxiety
There is calm, clarity and mindfulness at your core.

That is how I recenter myself every day.
Today I practice my breathing as I go into the second cycle.
