Get Better Results From Your Dumbbell Workouts (Without Spending More Time in the Gym)

By @coachrobertking

Have you ever walked into the gym with the best intentions…

Only to spend half your workout waiting for equipment, resting between sets, or wondering what exercise to do next?

You’re not alone.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is women training harder instead of training smarter.

The truth is, you don’t always need more exercises, longer workouts, or more days in the gym to see better results.

Sometimes, a few simple changes to how you structure your workout can help you:
⠀
✅ Get more work done in less time.
✅ Keep your heart rate up.
✅ Build strength more efficiently.
✅ Make your workouts more enjoyable.
⠀
It’s one of my favorite coaching strategies because it works whether you’re brand new to lifting or you’ve been training for years.

And the best part?

It doesn’t require more time.

It just requires a smarter approach.

I put together a short article explaining exactly how I use this strategy with the women I coach.

👇 Comment “READ” below, and I’ll send you the article so you can start getting better results from your dumbbell workouts—without spending more time in the gym. 💪 by @coachrobertking

The Iron Pyramid
Three Tools. One Path to Strength.

By @coachrobertking

Most women don’t need more exercises.

They need a better system.

That’s where The Iron Pyramid comes in.

Every tool has a purpose.

🔻 Dumbbells build the foundation. They teach movement, improve balance and coordination, and help you master proper technique.

🔺 Kettlebells build power. They develop explosive strength, improve conditioning, and create athletic movement that carries over into everyday life.

🏔️ Barbells build maximum strength. They allow you to progressively lift heavier loads, build muscle, and keep getting stronger year after year.

The mistake isn’t choosing one tool over another.

It’s thinking you have to.

The strongest women don’t rely on just barbells, just dumbbells, or just kettlebells.

They know how to use all three.

That’s the philosophy I’ve used for over 30 years coaching women of every age and experience level—from complete beginners to World Champions.

Master the foundation.

Build your power.

Then build your strength.

That’s The Iron Pyramid. 💪

The Iron Never Lies. 🏋️

Barbells. Dumbbells. Kettlebells.

They’re not just pieces of equipment—they’re the tools that build stronger bodies, greater confidence, and lifelong strength.

🏋️ Barbells help you build maximum strength with the biggest compound lifts.

💪 Dumbbells improve muscle balance, stability, and control while helping correct strength imbalances.

⚡ Kettlebells develop explosive power, athleticism, conditioning, and real-world movement.

The secret isn’t choosing one.

It’s knowing when to use each one and how to put the pieces together into a program that actually works.

That’s exactly how I coach women every day.

If you’d like to try one of our training programs, comment “IRON” below, and we’ll automatically send you a FREE sample training week so you can experience our coaching for yourself.

If You’re New to Lifting Weights…
Don’t Make This Common Training Mistake.

By @coachrobertking

One of the biggest mistakes I see beginners make isn’t a lack of motivation…

It’s following the wrong type of program.

You decide it’s finally time to get stronger.

You walk into the gym.

You search YouTube, Instagram, or Google for a workout.

And before you know it, you’re doing something like this:

🏋️ Monday – Chest

💪 Tuesday – Arms

🦵 Wednesday – Legs

😮‍💨 Thursday – Shoulders

Here’s the thing…

There’s nothing wrong with body-part training.

It works.

It’s been used successfully for decades.

And if your goal is bodybuilding or bringing up a specific muscle group, it can be a great tool.

But I don’t believe it’s where beginners should start.

When you’re new to lifting, your biggest priority isn’t building bigger biceps or rounder shoulders.

It’s learning how to move well under load.

Instead of thinking…

❌ “What muscles should I train today?”

Start thinking…

✅ “What movement patterns should I master today?”

Build your workouts around movements like:

✔ Squat

✔ Hinge

✔ Push

✔ Pull

✔ Carry

These movements train your body as a system—not as a collection of individual muscles.

You’ll build strength faster.

You’ll improve coordination.

You’ll develop better technique.

And you’ll create a foundation that makes every future workout more effective.

Then…

Once you’ve built that foundation, adding body-part training becomes far more valuable because you’re no longer trying to build strength on top of poor movement patterns.

I tell our members this all the time:

Train movements first.

Train muscles second.

Get that right, and almost everything else becomes easier.

👇 Want to try a beginner-friendly full-body workout built around movement patterns instead of body-part splits?

Lift Heavy. Swing Fast. Here’s Why.
By @coachrobertking

Most women understand that getting stronger means lifting heavier weights.

And they’re right.

Heavy compound lifts are the foundation of every great strength program. They build strength, muscle, confidence, and resilience.

But here’s what many women overlook…

If you want to be powerful, you also need to learn to move fast.

Strength is your ability to produce force.

Power is your ability to produce that force quickly.

That’s where kettlebells become one of the most valuable tools you can add to your training.

Movements like kettlebell swings teach you to generate explosive power through your hips, glutes, and core while improving athleticism, conditioning, grip strength, and overall performance.

That’s why THE IRON combines all three training tools instead of relying on just one.

🏋️ Barbells build strength.

💪 Dumbbells build muscle.

⚡ Kettlebells develop explosive power.

When you put those three pieces together, you don’t just become stronger—you become more capable.

That’s the philosophy behind every workout inside THE IRON.

If you’ve never trained this way before, I’d love for you to experience it.

Kettlebell Swing - 1 Arm
One Exercise. Big Payoff 💥

If you’ve never tried single-arm kettlebell swings, you’re missing out on one of the best exercises for building real-world strength and power.

Unlike a squat, the swing is a hip hinge. The power comes from driving your hips forward explosively—not lifting the kettlebell with your arm.

Why I love them:

✅ Build explosive power through the hips and glutes

✅ Strengthen your posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, lower back)

✅ Improve core strength by resisting rotation

✅ Challenge grip strength and shoulder stability

✅ Elevate your heart rate while building strength

A few coaching tips:

• Hinge at the hips—not squat.
• Keep your back neutral and your core braced.
• Let your hips generate the power.
• Your arm is just along for the ride.
• Stand tall at the top by squeezing your glutes—not leaning backward.

The single-arm variation adds another layer by forcing your core to resist twisting, making it an incredible exercise for building strength, stability, and athleticism.

Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier weights—it’s about moving well, generating power, and building a body that’s capable.

Today’s class absolutely crushed these. 👊🔥 taken in Heavy Weights Barbell Club by @coachrobertking
