🎯My Game Model Inspired by Fernando Diniz
Fluid. Bold. Collective. ⚽️🔥

We’re building a team that plays with identity — just like Fernando Diniz. This coach opened my 👀

✅ Positional freedom
✅ Constant support play
✅ Playing through pressure, not around it
✅ Centerbacks as playmakers
✅ Short, sharp connections

It’s not just about winning — it’s about how we play.
Trust. Courage. Movement. Ideas. That’s the model. 💭

THE SCORE DOESN’T ALWAYS TELL THE STORY.

We may not win every game on the scoreboard.

But every game, we want to see our intentions.
Our principles.
Our identity.

How we build.
How we press.
How we support each other.
How we react when we lose the ball.
How we compete.
How we play for the team.

The result matters. Of course it does.

But development is also about seeing the same principles appear again and again — regardless of the opponent, the score, or the circumstances.

We don’t judge the process only by the result.
We judge it by who we are becoming.

Game by game.
Principle by principle.
Together. ⚽️ by @coachrodwilhelm

The field wasn’t perfect yesterday. The conditions were not ideal.

But our principles stay the same.

We want to be brave with the ball, play forward, create support around the ball, overload areas, move as a unit and look to regain the ball quickly when we lose it.

The conditions may force us to adapt, but they don’t change our identity.

Different field. Same principles. Same mentality. Same game. #U14 #OPDL #canada taken in Pine Glen Oakville Soccer Field by @coachrodwilhelm

Beyond the Touchline – Joel Hansson

A great conversation about youth development, athletic development, early specialization, and how we can better develop young footballers.

Joel brings a really interesting perspective from his work with Hammarby Fotboll in Sweden, where he focuses on athletic development within the football environment.

What we train during the week is reflected during the game.

The habits.
The principles.
The decisions.
The intensity.
The way we want to play.

Training is not separate from the game — training prepares the game.

If we want to see it on match day, we have to train it every day. by @coachrodwilhelm

The Portuguese Way: How Portugal Develops Footballers
In this episode of Beyond the Touchline, I sit down with Coach João Oliveira to explore the Portuguese way of developing footballers and the experiences that shaped his coaching journey.
João takes us inside his time at SL Benfica, sharing stories and insights from an environment that helped develop players such as Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva.
We discuss what makes Portuguese football development unique — the importance of technical quality, football intelligence, creativity, decision-making, and developing players who can understand and solve problems on the pitch.
What can coaches learn from the Portuguese way? And what does it really take to develop footballers capable of reaching the highest level?
A conversation about player development, academy culture, and the ideas behind the Portuguese approach to the game.

New week. New challenges. Same standards. ⚽️🔥

Back on the pitch with purpose — building our game, competing, and improving together.

Every session is another opportunity to get better, sharpen our ideas, and prepare for the next match.

We play from the start. We work for each other. We keep improving. taken in Stewart Burnett park by @coachrodwilhelm
