As part of this year’s UN Biodiversity Conference, students from the COAF SMART Center in Lori will present their new Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping project. By using drone imagery, AI, and cutting-edge technologies, they have developed effective solutions to address critical environmental challenges in Lori, and have been empowered to become climate champions for their local community.

What happens when students use technology to tackle environmental challenges in their own community? Join COAF at this year’s UN Biodiversity Conference in Yerevan - @cop17armenia on Monday, October 19th to learn more! 🌱

We’re proud to present our student-led workshop at COP17, where COAF students will present how they’ve utilized GIS technology in our most recent SMART program to map flood risks throughout the Lori region of Northern Armenia. Students will walk workshop participants through their journey, from mapping the landscape, to understanding how water moves across the terrain, to combining environmental and community data in order to identify the highest-risk flood zones. This session will highlight how project-based learning has the power to equip the next generation with the skills they need to support their communities in the face of natural disasters and become Armenia’s future climate champions. 🌍

If you’re unable to make it to Monday’s workshop, you can still join us at our booth in the Green Zone during COP17 (Oct 19th - 30th) to learn more about our innovative GIS program. 🗺️

Հոկտեմբերի 19-30-ը միացե՛ք մեզ Կանաչ գոտում. ՍՄԱՐԹացիները «կտեղափոխեն» ձեզ Դեբեդ՝ ներկայացնելով մեր Աշխարհատեղեկատվական տեխնոլոգիաներ (GIS) ծրագրի շրջանակում մշակած «Ջրհեղեղների ռիսկի գնահատում» նախագիծը։ Քարտեզագրումից մինչև ջրային հոսքերի ուսումնասիրություն, համայնքային տվյալների հավաքագրումից մինչև մարդկային պատմություններ. պատանիները տեխնոլոգիաների միջոցով լուծում են իրենց համայնքի բնապահպանական խնդիրները։

Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) joins the Armenian community worldwide in mourning the passing of Benon Vahe Sevan (1938–2026), a distinguished international diplomat, humanitarian, and proud Armenian whose remarkable life was dedicated to public service.

For more than four decades, he served at the United Nations, while remaining deeply connected to his Armenian heritage and committed to inspiring and empowering future generations.

We are deeply honored that the Sevan family has designated COAF as one of the organizations to receive memorial contributions in his memory. Through these gifts, his legacy of service and generosity will continue to create opportunities for children and families in rural Armenia.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his daughter Jasmine, the entire Sevan and Hollowday families, and all who knew and admired him.

May his memory be a blessing.

Some stories begin long before we are born. ⌛

COAF Board Member and Ambassador, @joemanganiello , is bringing his new memoir, Bloodlines, to New York City on October 13th at the Explorers Club.

In Bloodlines, Joe explores the deeply personal story of identity, family, faith, and ancestry — including the Armenian roots that have shaped his journey as well as the extraordinary story of an ancestor who survived the Armenian Genocide.

Joe’s journey holds special meaning for the COAF community. In 2024, we had the privilege of welcoming him to Armenia as he explored his roots and connected more deeply with the country and its people. We’re proud to support him as he shares that story with readers through his exciting new release.
