Eating pizza

📸: @isabelandrich

Pizza’s origins can be traced back to ancient flatbreads topped with various ingredients, eaten by cultures like the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. The word “pizza” was first documented in 997 AD in Gaeta, Italy. However, modern pizza as we know it today originated in Naples, Italy between the 16th and mid-18th centuries.
Evolution from flatbreads:
The Romans had a flatbread called panis focacius that was similar to focaccia and could be topped. Before tomatoes were added, flatbreads were often topped with cheese, salt, lard, and garlic.
Naples in the 18th century:
To feed the influx of peasants, street vendors in Naples sold cheap and quick pizzas topped with cheese, tomatoes, garlic, anchovies, and oil.
Pizza’s popularity:
Pizza was primarily eaten by Italians and Italian emigrants until Allied troops stationed in Italy during World War II developed a taste for it. by @coalray

Just gotta say I’m crushed by the passing of David lynch. He is my favorite artist and completely changed the way I think about making things. Very very sad day. I cherish his works and the art he made, and they will continue to inspire me throughout my life. by @coalray
