A little fall update from our rooftop residents! 🐝🍂

Our beekeeping partners at Alvéole recently stopped by to check on the colony and help our bees prepare for the cooler months ahead. Here’s what they had to share:

“🐝 Fall is here and the colony is keeping busy. You can actually see foragers coming back loaded with bright yellow pollen, proof they’re still finding good food out there even as the season winds down. That rooftop pollinator garden full of black-eyed Susans and coneflowers? The bees are absolutely making use of it. We topped up their supplemental feed, added some treatment, and tightened the entrance to help the guard bees do their job as competition for resources picks up this time of year. Also grabbed a honey sample to send to the lab, can’t wait to find out exactly which flowers made it into this season’s harvest. Nature’s own flavor report! 🍯”

We love getting these little glimpses into life inside our rooftop hive! Stay tuned to find out what’s in this season’s honey harvest. 💛 taken in Coast at Lakeshore East by @coastchicagoapts
