When one of the coolest hotels on the planet chooses Coco Du Sol, it feels like the ultimate stamp of approval. 🤎

We’ve stayed at some incredible hotels around the world, and Jacumba is honestly one of the most unforgettable places I’ve ever experienced. If you haven’t been, you are truly missing out.

Something about this place stays with you. The mineral pools, the moody Moroccan inspired bar, the old bathhouse, the soulful rooms and every tucked away corner. Each space is exceptional, but it’s the tiny moments and thoughtful details that become memories.

Even more inspiring is the story behind it. When the owners took on the hotel and much of the surrounding town, they could have erased its history and turned it into another commercial destination. Instead, they chose to protect its soul. They worked with the people who already called Jacumba home and have been thoughtful about bringing life back to Main Street through people who genuinely want to become part of the community.

That kind of stewardship is rare. It’s a beautiful reminder that success can mean making a place better without taking away what made it special.

Jacumba is magical, wildly unique and beyond special. We couldn’t be more excited that they wanted Coco Du Sol to become a small part of its story. by @coco.du.sol

Sometimes the rocks really are the architecture.

Tucked beneath the shade and surrounded by these incredible boulders, this might be the epitome of relaxation.

We love how @hi.canyon an LA and Yucca Valley landscape design-and-build firm, used our natural coconut-fiber shade to create such a beautiful connection between the this space and its wild desert surroundings.

So much of what we see today feels like the same handful of ideas reshaped, recolored and repeated. But then Nicolò Bini contacted us about using our coconut fiber shades in one of his new projects and I had to learn more.

Bini is carrying forward — and seriously evolving — a building technology originally pioneered by his father, architect Dante Bini, in the 1960s. Their Binishell system uses pneumatic formwork and air pressure to help create incredibly thin, monolithic concrete shells.

But what I find most interesting is that these buildings aren’t different simply for the sake of looking different. The geometry is doing something special.

The shell form can use less material, eliminate much of the conventional formwork and construction waste, create large column-free spaces and produce structures designed around strength and resiliency. He explores lower-carbon concrete, passive cooling, natural ventilation and building forms that require less energy over their lifetime.

That’s the kind of architecture I love seeing, not just a new shape, but a new way of thinking about how we build.

Thanks for finding us.

As summer starts to wind down, one thing seems pretty clear, Hawaiʻi is the place everyone is heading, no matter the season. 🌺 It feels like nearly everyone we talk to is either just coming back from the islands or getting ready to go.

With so many friends and neighbors traveling to Hawaiʻi, we wanted to give a special shoutout to Surf N Salsa on Oʻahu’s North Shore. Not only because we love them and they’ve been one of Coco Du Sol’s first and most loyal customers, but because of their resilience and everything they’ve been through this year.

The North Shore was hit hard by flooding, and Surf N Salsa has had to deal with the damage, disruption and the ongoing work of rebuilding. And in the middle of dealing with all of that themselves, they cooked free meals for people in their community who had also been affected by the floods. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the people behind this place.

They’ve been through a lot, and we’re incredibly happy to see them continuing to.

So if you’re headed to Oʻahu, put @surfnsalsa on your North Shore list. Go eat some amazing food, support a local business that truly deserves the love, and look for our shades🌴🌮🤎 by @coco.du.sol

This is what shade should feel like.

Real photos. Real shade. Beautiful product shots can make coconut shade sails and decorative coconut netting look similar. That’s why it’s important to look for real installation photos that show the shade actually being created.

Thanks for sharing your installation photos with us, we love seeing what you’ve created. taken in Rialto, California by @coco.du.sol

How to Shop for Shade - not all coconut shade is woven with the same intention.

Some products are meant to provide a decorative overhead covering, while others are crafted to create shade that’s as beautiful as it is functional.

If your goal is to create a cooler, more comfortable outdoor space, it’s worth knowing what to look for before you buy.

What to look for:

✔ Weight – Ask for the product weight. Extremely lightweight coconut products are often decorative netting rather than functional shade. Weight is a good indicator of weave density and overall construction.

✔ Weave density & fiber thickness – Ask for close-up photos of the weave and a measured weave spacing, not just product photos. Pay attention to both the thickness of the coconut fibers and how tightly they’re woven together.

✔ Edge construction – A quality shade sail should have reinforced edge binding that distributes tension around the entire perimeter, rather than ending with exposed woven fibers.

✔ Corner reinforcement – The corners should be securely wrapped with multiple turns of heavy rope to distribute the load across the sail. Avoid corners where the hardware is attached directly to the weave with little or no reinforcement.

✔ UV performance – Ask to see real customer installation photos showing the shade the sail actually creates. A quality shade sail should cast noticeable, dappled shade that helps cool the space beneath it.

✔ Shipping & inspection – Ask where the product ships from and whether it’s inspected before it reaches you. Products that are inspected and quality-checked before shipping are more likely to arrive as advertised.

A beautiful product photo doesn’t tell the whole story. The construction does.

Swipe to see the difference. taken in Topanga, California by @coco.du.sol

A little oasis in San José del Cabo where desert landscapes, mountain views, and the Sea of Cortez all collide. @costamigosbaja is a place built for slowing down, meeting great people, and remembering why Baja has a way of pulling you back again and again.

We’re proud to be part of that experience, with Coco Du Sol naturally shading the spaces where stories are shared, meals linger, and life happens outdoors.

Here’s to good company, salty air, and shade made for places exactly like this. 🌴

One of our favorite parts of what we do is seeing the incredible creativity behind every installation. From layered canopies and overlapping sails to angled installations and unique corner designs, every project has its own personality. It’s been so much fun watching people make our shade sails their own.

This beautiful installation was recently completed at @mayabrisbane Mexican Restaurant in Australia. We love the atmosphere they’ve created, vibrant, relaxed, and full of character. Our natural woven shades fit right into the space, adding texture, filtered light, and an inviting sense of warmth.

It’s always rewarding to see our products become part of thoughtfully designed destinations where people gather, connect, and enjoy memorable experiences.

Thank you to the team at Maya for bringing your vision to life. We absolutely love how this installation turned out. taken in Brisbane, Australia by @coco.du.sol

A hidden home. Great coffee. Beautiful design. And now, a little Coco Du Sol.

Granada is rethinking what a neighborhood café can be by opening their own home to the public and creating a space where good coffee, thoughtful design, and community come together.

We love seeing our handwoven shades become part of places like this, where people slow down, gather outdoors, and stay a little longer.

If you’re in Echo Park, put Granada on your list. It’s a reminder that some of the best places aren’t the ones with the biggest signs, they’re the ones that make you feel at home.

There’s nothing better than celebrating good people doing what they love.

Congratulations to our friends at @lostranchwinery on the release of Turquoise Moon.

What a beautiful way to celebrate, with a spaghetti western-inspired sunset party surrounded by their friends, great food, and country music.

This is exactly the kind of space we love seeing our coconut fiber shade sails become a part of. These are the moments we designed them for: gathering outdoors, sharing a meal, listening to music, and making memories.

Cheers to the Lost Ranch Winery team on a beautiful new release. We can’t wait to see what you create next. by @coco.du.sol
