On May 10, I will be considered an Alumni at the University of Georgia. There are many things that I could say about my experience here as a black woman attending a PWI, but one thing I will say is how proud I am for the woman that I have become during my stay here. Before coming to UGA, I didn’t see much of myself. I was shy, vulnerable, and reserved. Once I received my acceptance letter, I knew I was going to have to get out of my shell a bit. Overtime, I made such wonderful, lifelong friends that were able to help me whenever I needed it. I joined to be a part of organizations that allowed me to be creative and take more leadership roles than I expected. I was able to work with some great professors, who motivated me to become a better journalist. I was able to do all of this and still have to worry about an 11:59 deadline. During my stay at UGA, I’ve had the honor of experiencing many lessons and blessings on this campus. Too many times I have laughed, cried, screamed, studied, and attended way too many late night trips downtown. But for the most part I smiled. I smiled when I walked onto this campus during Fall 2021 and I am smiling now as I know that I have left my mark here in Athens. In no way do I regret the decisions that I have made here on campus, because they have helped mold me to become the beautiful black woman that I am today. For that, I am thankful and blessed to say that I am a part of the graduating class of Spring 2024. To my father: My best friend, I know it wasn’t easy raising me. Before you got remarried, you were a single father, struggling to deal with the girls that you had to raise. This was before you made Major in the army and before I hit puberty. I want to thank you for your patience and how you bent over backwards to make sure I had what I needed. Not only that but you made sure I was taken care of. If you did spoil me, it was in love and protection. Whenever you deployed overseas, I was never worried because your love covered me, and I knew you would always come home to be with me. No matter where I was, I always knew I had you and for that I am eternally grateful. Thanks again UGA, forever a part of the bulldog nation by @coco.nellyxx
