Coco Elder’s love of the Australian bush and reverence for nature inspires her practice. Having lived near Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, and more recently within the Bellingen Shire, the Guringai and Gumbaynggirr country have been a source of subject matter that aspires to her senses.

Coco Elder’s artistic journey began with an early fascination with colour and a childhood surrounded by creativity. Her father, a graphic designer and painter, introduced her to the world of art from a young age, with his attic studio becoming a formative part of her childhood. Through her father’s connection to Faber-Castell, Coco also grew up surrounded by pencils, pastels and art materials, sparking an early love of drawing that would eventually evolve into painting. Nature remains at the heart of Coco’s work, with the beauty, colour and intricate forms of the natural world providing an endless source of inspiration.

Meet the Artist 1pm – 3pm Saturday 5 September 2026

Coco Elder’s exhibition, Forest Song of intricately carved oil paintings, reflects a particularly significant period of change in Coco’s life. After an unsettled year of moving between spaces, she has now found a permanent home and studio nestled among eucalyptus forest, where the sounds and rhythms of the surrounding wildlife have become part of her everyday life. This deep connection to her surroundings flows through the new collection, inviting us to pause and experience the wonder, peace and beauty of the natural world through Coco’s eyes.
