Dona Cila do Coco is a treasure of Pernambuco's popular culture. Born and raised in Olinda, she is now 85 years old and still singing and performing, enjoying her beer "only on weekends" these days... Her son Michel—you know, the one with the paper head (stay tuned for another post on that)—takes care of everything.

She is an outstanding singer, a great master of our culture, and deserves not only all the tributes in the world but also concrete support that brings REAL impact to her life. We're in this together!

What an honor to spend this lovely afternoon and sing alongside the dear and incredibly talented @viola.luz

"Movimento da Cidade", composed by Luiz Boquinha and Ari Monteiro, was originally recorded by Ary Lobo in 1962 and subsequently reinterpreted by Dona Cila do Coco in the late 1990s.

17ª Marcha pela vida das mulheres e pela agroecologia na Paraíba. Só mulher foda. by @cocodarminina

May 2025: How could I have known that this would be the last time I’d see her? :-(

I dream of a world that gives back as much as we receive from great mestras like

BIU BARACHO.

Her ciranda will sound on forever.
