#SCYjimm manager: A Port Orange rap manager was found guilty Thursday of murdering a man during a dispute sparked in part by a rapper burning $20 bills.

A jury convicted Robert Blue, 29, of second-degree murder with a firearm. No sentencing date has been set, but Blue faces up to life in prison. The conviction carries a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence.

Blue fatally shot Jaron Smith on June 4, 2023, during a party on Orange Avenue in Daytona Beach.

Blue, also known as Blue Chezz, was at the time managing a Bunnell-based gangster rapper named SCY Jimm, whose real name is Jimnirable Curry.
They had gathered for a party when SCY Jimm started burning $20 bills as a way to celebrate his success.

Assistant State Attorney Helen Schwartz cited testimony from a witness named Mack Jones, who was transported from prison to testify during the trial. Jones said that Blue told SCY Jimm that if he was going to burn money that he’d rather he spend it at a strip club. There was also testimony that Blue disparaged Smith, using a racial slur as he told Smith he was broke and had no money.

She said Blue felt disrespected by Smith hanging out with his rapper.

Schwartz said as the argument escalated, Smith punched Blue in the face and sprayed him with pepper spray. Then Smith turned and ran, Schwartz said.

She said Blue stepped through the crowd and shot Smith in the back as he was running away.

Blue did not stay and call police to report he had just shot a man in self-defense, she said. Instead, he took off in his SUV and parked at a retirement complex next to his apartment complex in Port Orange.

Blue’s defense attorney, Aaron Delgado, said Jones was not a credible witness. Delgado said Jones is serving time in prison and could face decades behind bars if he violates probation once he is released.

Delgado referred to Blue's testimony in which he said he was concerned about SCY Jimm burning money while he was live on social media for safety reasons. Blue also testified that burning money was not "humble." Blue said Smith interjected himself in the conversation between him and SCY Jimm.
