In one section of our workshops, by Mike Tyus & Luca Renzi, we invite dancers into the movement language we are developing, into the research, philosophy, and precise physical tasks that shape our work.

Each exploration is closely directed. We set the frame, guide the attention, and work through the details. The qualities you see emerge from that specificity: the nuances we keep returning to, questioning, and refining.

Within this frame, dancers bring their own instincts, experiences, and interpretations.

DIAVOLO Summer Intensive 2026

This was the sixth intensive I’ve run at DIAVOLO. I’m not sure it gets any easier. This one especially pushed my capacity. Well, they all do. And honestly, I’m better for them. Even when it’s tough, because I’m helping bring together something that would not happen otherwise. I bring people together, I facilitate dreaming, and I help the ship keep moving. And trust, sometimes the ship does not want to move.

In all of that, I wonder if I’m the right person doing it, or if I’m simply just the one who agreed. But as always, the students surprise me. They come in with puppy dog faces and leave warriors. People with so much agency that they’ll even command me in the space, all while taking care of each other.

Honestly, I typically feel forgotten by these students, but I think the job of a parent, and yeah, I’ll use that word right now, is to be outgrown by the people you’re facilitating. These people always do that. Every. Single. Time.

So thank you to everyone who came. I’m simply a facilitator toward what you already bring in. We just do it à la DIAVOLO. And thank you to the team that makes all of this happen. None of it exists without you.

Happy Birthday Co-eL

I’ve spent most of my life trying to survive. When I wasn’t, I was looking for the next thing to prove. It’s become so easy for me to forget to appreciate who I’ve become.

I still have a lot of dreams and goals, but this year I want to take a little time to just be. To recognize how far I’ve come, be intentional with where I spend my time and energy, and enjoy the life I’m building instead of always chasing.

I’m beyond grateful for the people who continue to show up for me with love and genuine care. I’m trying to be better about receiving as much as I want to give back.

Felt pretty sloppy on my signatures and overall performance but honestly not bad for a first run back!

This year was hard. Transformative. Gut wrenching in ways I didn’t expect. A lot of discomfort, a lot of growing pains. Family dynamics shifted. Friend dynamics shifted. Self image shifted. I’m not the same person I was at the beginning of the year but still the same dude.

I worked a lot. Like, an excessive amount. Got ridiculously fit. Started reading again. Performed a full length show for months. Totaled my car. Got a new car. Went to weddings. Watched my youngest sibling graduate. Grieved the loss of family. Got my heart broken several times over. Grew a mustache.

Usually, when the year ends, I feel this pressure to come in with big plans for change but this time feels different. I’ve already been doing the work. Sitting with discomfort. Building better practices. Being more intentional. Crying. Learning how to slow down without giving up who I am and slowly re-integrating parts of who I was that I still love.

I’m really proud of myself.

Now it feels less about becoming someone new and more about bringing together the guy who knows how to grind with the guy who also wants peace.

Cheers to 2025. I’m going to keep doing what I've been doing as I head into 2026. And thank you to the people who are actively and intentionally a part of my journey. You know you are and I appreciate you so much. by @coelsky

E S C A P E - 2025

We wrapped our run of ESCAPE and I am taking a moment to recognize the growth that came with it. This process challenged me in and out of rehearsal and asked for a level of focus and resilience that pushed me beyond my limits. I never thought I would be doing this kind of work, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Thank you to my colleagues for sharing this process with me. I appreciate the people I worked alongside and the collective effort it took to bring this show to life.

DIAVOLO is one of the few places where this kind of work exists. The scale, the precision, and the creative demands continue to shape me as an artist. Even four years in, I’m still learning and growing, and I’m glad I get to do that here.

I’m looking forward to what is ahead and to returning to ESCAPE in 2026.
