If you asked anyone a year ago if I would do it, they would’ve said “no.”
If you asked if I could, they would’ve said “we hope so.”
If you asked me, I would’ve said “I don’t know… but we’re about to find out.”

Looking back now, it was never a question of if or could. It was always going to happen. The only question was when—and the truth is, it had already begun.

I know this may ruffle feathers, but I believe what I believe. I don’t believe in addiction as an identity. I don’t believe in handicapping people with words that make them trust themselves less. We all get addicted—to drugs, food, material things, emotions—but at the end of the day, they are still choices. We don’t need them to survive. We choose them because we want them.

The longer I abstained from the things hurting me and the people around me, the more I understood the power of self. Looking yourself in the mirror and taking accountability—even if only to yourself—is a superpower. With that mindset, you can break any stigma, any negative, any “addiction.”

I’m not saying addiction isn’t a real struggle. I see it in people I love. My brother is losing his battle to drugs , My best friend is losing his battle to alcohol. But I refuse to believe the power of demise is stronger than the human mind and soul. We choose habits; habits don’t choose us. The power to choose health is just as addictive as the power to choose a vice.

Today marks one year sober from my own choices. Adderall was slowly destroying my health. I’m not ashamed. I own my choices. I always said, “I will when I’m ready.” And when I was ready, I did—and never looked back.

Everyone’s road to recovery is different. Mine was something magical. But the most powerful remedy I know is simple: YOU.
You all have this power , you all have this magic inside and anyone who needs a ear to tell their story , or needs a voice to tell their ear they can do it, please don’t hesitate to call me or write me .. I will remind you of your power

Hey Dad,
Hope you’re doing well….Been a minutes since I wrote you a letter. Wanted to say thank you. Thank you for all you did for me in my life. Thank you for the memories we made, the places we went, and the sport of boxing we held so dear to our hearts. Thanks for all the sporting events and the lifetime season tickets to the giants that we no longer want (they really are bad dad but we got a new qb maybe he will be something). Thank you for the best times of my life, for since you been gone I have a hard time remembering any day as great since. Grief sucks dad , it will eat you up inside and make you forget the happiness. It Will take the layer of whimsical away and replace it with numbness.. you would tell me shaw boys don’t fold . And so we march on , we carry your lessons , your morals and the values you instilled in me. You wouldn’t want me to be sad but you’d be so happy to know how missed you are. I could go on and on dad but I wanted to wish you the Happiest Birthday 🎂 your second in heaven 👼 and your 81st here on the giant rock 🌍 floating in space.

P.s. today marks 10 months since I have quit the drug that you use to pray to god I would one day. That’s the best present I can give you for a lifetime.

🎉 3 Years Old!! Or 3 Of You??!!! 😳

Happy Birthday to My Daughter Isabella—the only roommate I’ve ever had who:
• Wears a princess dress to breakfast 👑
• Asks “Was that?!” about everything 🤔
• First sentence was “Is that for Me? Izzy?…
• Throws tantrums if I don’t let her “help” fix the Wi-Fi
• Sings Let It Go on repeat like she’s headlining Coachella 🎶
• Wakes me up like a human alarm clock yelling, “Wake up, Daddy!” (With fingers on my eyelids) every. single. day. ⏰
