Great coffee, a great book, and a great setting.
Started with a cappuccino (Esther absolutely nailed the latte art) and a few chapters of Fool’s Fate—book three of Robin Hobb’s Tawny Man Trilogy—before switching to a pourover of Mundos Coffee’s Joyabaj.
If you’re new to Hobb: this is FitzChivalry Farseer years after the Farseer Trilogy, pulled back into court life to help Prince Dutiful on a quest that could mean peace with the Outislands… or cost the Fool his life. Dragons in ice, prophecy vs loyalty, and the kind of character work that wrecks you in the best way. No spoilers. Just that Hobb feeling.
The Joyabaj is a natural from Quiché, Guatemala—blueberry, chocolate, floral. Smallholder families, 1,600–1,700 masl, processed at the Joyabaj Wet Mill that opened in 2021. Soft, calm, a little wild. Perfect next to a historic 1909 schoolhouse.
The District is that rare spot that actually feels like a place you want to stay. Warm, welcoming, and built inside Dorr’s old schoolhouse. Worth the drive.

Delicious Gesha, perfect weather, and an audiobook on the front porch. Couldn’t think of a better way to relax on this Labor Day.
This washed Gesha from Finca La Peña del León in Peru (producer Francisco Rivera, 1850 masl) is imported by Cafe Imports and roasted by Lantern. In the cup it’s lavender, sweet citrus, and papaya — floral, bright, and exactly what this sunny porch session called for.

New grinder, same machine, more people on espresso.
Fellow Opus 2 just landed — 48mm conicals, stepless dial, auto-stop, almost no leftover grounds. Espresso shot grind in about 9 seconds.
Bought it to sit next to my Lelit Mara X so friends can borrow the setup and actually taste what home espresso is supposed to be.

I love having variety of choices for each preferred brew method. Airscape cans and Electric Atoms containers keep my coffee’s fresh and in the optimal brew conditions. I plan out my purchases and storage methods to ensure coffee is enjoyed during its ideal freshness for the designated brew method.
