SpaceX’s agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum portfolio positions Starlink Mobile to operate as a standalone U.S. wireless carrier rather than solely as a satellite broadband or partner service.

Shares of AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile fell roughly 6–14 percent on Friday, erasing tens of billions of dollars in market value on the announcement.

Investors are pricing in a well-capitalized competitor able to combine satellite coverage with terrestrial spectrum for broader indoor and outdoor connectivity.

Shares of AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile each fell roughly 7% in after-hours trading Thursday after SpaceX said it had agreed to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum portfolio, a step it says will let Starlink Mobile grow into a major US carrier.

The airwaves come from Grain Management, and the deal is subject to FCC approval. Low-band spectrum carries signals farther and through obstacles, filling a technical gap in Starlink’s direct-to-phone service. SpaceX had already told investors in August that it plans to build a terrestrial network and compete for customers of the big three. Some analysts caution that SpaceX is still a long way from running a full mobile service.

China’s central bank added 740,000 ounces of gold—about 23 tonnes, worth roughly $3.1 billion at recent prices—to its reserves in September 2026, its largest monthly increase since 2023.

The purchase lifted official holdings to 77.47 million ounces and extended a buying streak to 23 consecutive months, even as gold prices fell more than 6% over the month.

The move is widely read as part of Beijing’s effort to diversify foreign-exchange reserves and reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar, although the reported value of China’s gold stockpile still declined to about $323.5 billion because of the price drop.

McDonald’s shares closed at $230.88 on October 7, 2026, their lowest finish in more than four years and about 32% below February’s peak.

The stock is also on track for a ninth straight weekly decline, matching its longest losing streak since the company listed in 1966, and has left $MCD underperforming the S&P 500 by the widest margin since 2007.

Investors are now weighing whether the drop signals a deeper franchise challenge or a longer-term entry point for the dividend-paying chain.

Bitcoin fell nearly $2,000 in about 20 minutes on October 6, 2026, sliding more than 2% from roughly $85,308 to $83,341.

The drop pulled Ethereum under $2,600 and spread across major tokens as leveraged positions were forced closed.

About $400 million in leveraged long positions were liquidated in that window, as forced selling amplified the decline.

The CNN Fear & Greed Index climbed to 48 on October 6, shifting into Neutral after the previous close sat in Fear at 43.

That move ends a stretch of fear that had lasted more than a month, with the gauge as low as 28 only a week earlier.

A month ago the index was Neutral at 45 and a year ago it was Neutral at 53, so sentiment has improved from recent caution but remains well short of greed.

The S&P 500 closed at a record high of 7,818.93 on October 6, 2026, its first record close since August 13 and its first finish above 7,800.

The index has risen about 23% from its March 30 low of 6,343.72, a rebound that market commentary pegs at roughly $13.5 trillion in added market capitalization.

Gains were driven mainly by AI-related megacap tech stocks, including Nvidia, even as Treasury yields stayed elevated and broader market participation remained uneven.

On January 31, 2023, Michael Burry posted a one-word “Sell” warning, which was widely read as a call to exit stocks ahead of the next Federal Reserve decision; the Nasdaq-100 closed that day at about 12,102.

Since then the index has more than doubled, rising roughly 157% to a record close of 31,076.44 on October 5, 2026.

That print was its second straight all-time high, extending a multiyear tech rally that has run far past Burry’s early-2023 caution—he later wrote that he had been “wrong to say sell.”

Early Nvidia technical advisor Eric Gullichsen claims the company owes him roughly $1 billion in stock because a 1993 option grant of 25,000 shares was vested incorrectly.

He says the signed agreement required the options to vest in four quarterly installments over one year, but Nvidia treated the schedule as four years, so only 15,625 options had vested when he left in April 1996, leaving a shortfall of 9,375 shares that, after cumulative 480-for-1 splits, would equal about 4.5 million shares today.

Gullichsen says he noticed the discrepancy in 2024 while rereading old documents; Nvidia rejected a settlement and called the claim time-barred, and he chose not to sue after concluding the statute of limitations made the case unwinnable.

Nike is the only current Dow Jones Industrial Average stock with a negative return over the past decade, down about 32.5% even as every other component has risen.

That leaves it as a clear outlier in an index whose next-weakest names are still positive over the same span, with the Dow itself up sharply.

The slide reflects years of weaker sales, heavier competition, and a post-2021 collapse that has cut the stock roughly 80% from its peak and left Nike with the smallest weight in the price-weighted Dow.

Nasdaq announced on October 1, 2026, that Moderna (MRNA) will join the Nasdaq-100 Index, replacing Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) before the market open on October 9. Warner Bros.

Discovery is leaving the index because its acquisition by Paramount Skydance is expected to close around October 6, while Moderna’s return follows a year-to-date surge of more than 500% that lifted its market value to roughly $75 billion, largely on positive data for its personalized cancer vaccine developed with Merck.

Index-tracking funds will need to buy Moderna shares and sell Warner Bros. Discovery to match the new composition, creating mechanical demand around the effective date.
