Sometimes, in my eagerness to get beginners playing, I wonder whether or not being so obnoxiously meticulous about class and setup expectations is *really* worth it. But then one day, it all clicks, and I watch 11 sixth graders (mostly boys, no less!) silently setup the room and their equipment to absolute perfection, down to the finest detail. Yes, it’s worth it. ❤️ by @colbylsnider

Totally normal day in the RMS beginner class! I just know he’s been driving his parents bananas, but I love it. ❤️ 😂 by @colbylsnider

Rage baiting 6th graders 101: Oooooh nooooo! I left the top secret files open on the Promethean board. Oops. 😂 by @colbylsnider

This is too good not to share… Enjoy my reaction when I realize that my beginners had such a killer class that I totally lost track of time and their dismissal bell was ringing. We had to finish the phrase, though! 😂😂🤣 by @colbylsnider

FINE!!! My Rodriguez beginners made it to the end of Mozart’s Turkish March today. I knew picking this as their keyboard solo was going to be a challenge that pushed them to their limits (and me on some days! 😂), but I felt it was something that will be worth it in the long run. They’ve absolutely crushed it, way beyond any expectations I ever had. This class is so special. 🔥 by @colbylsnider

There’s nothing I love more than when a student shows up and says, “I finished working out the tricky part I’ve been struggling with.” Most impressive to me are the subtleties of his musicality and phrasing as a 7th grader, especially while using those worn out beginner-year mallets. Kid’s gonna be a beast. 🔥 by @colbylsnider

PASIC dump. Going almost straight from San Antonio to Indianapolis on buses felt like an exhausting fever dream, but it was fun. I’m proud of the show our students put on as an IPEC winner. 🏆 by @colbylsnider
