Our newest ABSN students are officially on the block and they’ve wasted no time getting to work! 🩺

These future nurses have been busy building their Fundamentals foundation in the Schaefer Center - learning, practicing, problem-solving, and getting comfortable stepping into the role of the nurse.

Recently, they put their skills to work through a geriatrics simulation and mobility lab, exploring the challenges older adults may experience while practicing safe mobility, communication, and patient-centered care. From navigating stairs with mobility limitations to experiencing changes in vision and dexterity, there was plenty of hands-on learning (and a lot of laughter!) along the way. 👓🦵

Our accelerated nursing students cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time, and this group is already hard at work. We’re excited to watch their skills (and confidence!) continue to grow! 🩺✨

🫎 The last first day at the Moose 💙

For years, “meet at the Moose” has meant the start of another clinical rotation at @dhmcandclinics. Today, it marked something a little different: the last first day of group clinicals for our senior nursing students 🥹🩺

They’ve come a long way since their first clinical rotations and now they’re stepping onto the units as seniors for one final group clinical experience before practicum and graduation. 🎓

We’re excited for all the learning, growth, challenges, and memories still to come this semester!

One last group clinical rotation. One step closer to becoming the RN 💙🩺

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Catherine Thomas, DNP, MSN, BSN, CNE, as the new Dean of the School of Nursing & Health Sciences at Colby-Sawyer College! 🩺💙

Dr. Thomas brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, with a career dedicated to supporting students and faculty, advancing nursing education, and building strong partnerships between academic and healthcare communities. Her background includes leadership across undergraduate and graduate nursing education, as well as clinical experience in medical and cardiac-surgical intensive care.

As Dean, Dr. Thomas will lead our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and other programs within SNHS, while continuing to strengthen our important partnership with Dartmouth Health and expand opportunities that prepare our students to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our region.

We are excited for this next chapter for SNHS and for our students, faculty, staff, and community to get to know Dr. Thomas. Welcome to @colbysawyercollege, Catherine! We’re so glad you’re here! 💙🤍

Back in scrubs & back to work 🩺💙

There’s no better way to start a new semester than getting back into the lab! Our nursing students kicked off the year refreshing essential skills, building confidence, learning alongside one another, and having a little fun along the way! 💉🩹

Because nursing skills aren’t just learned once - they’re practiced, refined, and strengthened every step of the way.

Our Fundamentals of Nursing students are building essential clinical skills through simulation and skills lab experiences. Students practiced tracheostomy care, including assessment, cleaning, and maintenance techniques while applying principles of infection prevention, patient safety, and therapeutic communication.

Every skill practiced today helps prepare our students for tomorrow’s patients 💙🩺

We are proud to celebrate the strong presence of Colby-Sawyer College School of Nursing & Health Sciences faculty and alumni at the Annual Nurse Educators Conference that took place on Cape Cod at the end of May! 🌼 Congratulations to Colby-Sawyer College ABSN alumnus Blake ‘25, on receiving a DAISY Award during Nurses Week at Dartmouth Health! 🌼

The celebration held at @dhmcandclinics was extra special this year as Tena Barnes, co-founder of DAISY Foundation, was there! She shared that the DAISY Award recognizes nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care, and Blake’s nomination is a powerful reminder of the profound impact nurses have on patients and families during life’s most difficult moments.

Blake was nominated by the husband of a patient with advanced cancer, who shared:

“What an amazing human being Blake was. He took care of my wife, explained everything he was doing with amazing compassion… I really don’t know if I could have gotten through this without his kindness.”

Through compassionate communication, clinical expertise, and genuine human connection, Blake exemplified the very best of nursing. His care not only supported his patient but also provided comfort and strength to a family navigating an incredibly challenging journey.

We are proud to celebrate Blake’s achievement and grateful to see Colby-Sawyer nursing alumni making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve every day. Fun Fact: the first picture is Blake, with the husband of the patient he cared for, and the Medical ICU leadership team who are all @csc_alumni 💙🩺
