Happy 2 years in heaven to my guardian angel 🕊️
•
You’ve been on my mind a lot lately and I hope I continue to make you proud, mama. Watching one of the strongest people you’ve ever known slowly lose pieces of themselves is one of the hardest things to experience. Through it all, I kept reminding myself to appreciate and cherish every moment with whatever version of them was in front of me. I’m forever grateful that I did.

Something that resonated with me recently that I wish I was more mindful of when my grandma was still alive: choose comfort over correction. If they believe something that isn’t true, gently entering their reality and meeting them in their world is often more loving than trying to pull them back into ours.

So if you’re caring for someone with dementia or Alzheimers, or if you lost someone to it, just know you’re not alone. Give yourself grace, embrace those moments of connection (no matter how small) and remember to take care of yourself too. The disease changes so much, but love, comfort, and presence still matter more than you may realize. 💕
