Hey friends! A week from Saturday, the Back 2 Basics crew is throwing a Park Jams party at a gorgeous park location on the Richmond waterfront. They’ve asked myself, local legend Buna, and DJ Kerry (whose party “The Basement” is one of LA’s best-ever underground parties… seriously). Of course, it’s all vinyl (as B2B do) with solid sound and vibes. Buna kicks it off for the first 2 hours, then I’m on 5-7, with Kerry closing it down till 9. It’s a free party and all the fam is welcome… Hope you can come dance with us!!! taken in Lucretia W. Edwards Shoreline Park by @coleodin

Tomorrow! If you’re free during the day and wanna see and hear some great music from killer Bay Area selectors, then stop by the UNIQLO store opening block party! Aside from DJ Umami (the SF Giants DJ), and KALW’s Lady Ryan and Wonway Posibul, I’ll be there with two teen DJs from Blue Bear School of Music’s Blue Beat Teen DJ Collective. Owen, Wyatt and I will be rotating through from 2:45 and 4 (after Lady Ryan and before Umami) at the Ellis Stage (Ellis and Market st)… These kids are awesome!! Both of them are constantly showing me new music, and their DJs skills are on point as well… It’s free and fun, so bring the fan and friends! 💜🎛️💜 taken in San Francisco, California by @coleodin

PRE-ORDER!! Joy Theater Productions - The Green Room, Stage 1; 12” Vinyl LP, Limited Run (300 units), Black and Olive Green Variants

Get it at hotwaxmusic.com or hit the shop tag in the post!

ABOUT JOY THEATER AND THE RELEASE
This album is the premier release by JOY THEATER PRODUCTIONS, a San Francisco based record label founded by producer, musician, and DJ Cole Odin.

On the 2nd release from SF’s Joy Theater Productions, the label’s motto of “Sincerity and
Psychedelia” comes to life in a smattering of reworks titled, “The Green Room - Stage 1”.

Side A literally starts with the crowd. The first track brings a sleazy UG disco-unk jam paired with a live recording of a classic Chicago MC callin’ his line dance. It’s an infectious and fun run that sets the stage or the bounce that bathes the first side of the release. That segues into a jazzy latin funk number carved from the son’s beloved live version (snatched off a really small desk), and its more thump-driven studio take. The final track is a classic rock killer, where the middle grooves get center stage and repetition is the hook. It’s a teeter-tottering, low-slung chugger that begs your inner air guitarist to close their eyes and hit the neck up high!

Moving into side B, the record kicks the tempo up with a newer sample that’s a blend of techno,
psyche rock and oddly enough, a dash of ska... It sounds like it would never work, and yet... it really does (and it’s the personal fave of Thomas Banks, the magikal mastering engineer of the release). The next track’s a mid-tempo chugger. A tug-of-war between trip hop & psyche rock. Who will win? A tricky question, indeed... The 3rd slot of side B keeps it cosmic with a motorik venture into the spacey side of indie rock. Finally, the record closes with a quick, barn-burner of a joint that sounds like Dick Dale on crosstops.

So grab your backstage pass and hang with the band in The Green Room!!!.
