One thing I’ve learned over the years is that a lot of veterans don’t miss out on benefits because they don’t qualify—they miss out because they simply don’t know what’s available.

I was one of those people at different points in my own journey. Every time I asked questions, I found another resource I didn’t know existed. That’s exactly why I started sharing this information.

If you’re using VA education benefits—or your spouse or child qualifies under Chapter 35—don’t overlook the VA Work-Study Program. It can give you the opportunity to earn extra income while you’re in school, build experience, and continue receiving your education benefits at the same time.

Sometimes all it takes is someone pointing you in the right direction.

Welcome to Coles Compass Veteran Guidance.

I’m Candice Coles, an Army veteran, and I created this page because I know what it’s like to leave the military and realize there isn’t a roadmap for everything that comes next.

Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours learning how to navigate career changes, VA benefits, education programs, and the many resources available to veterans. Some things I learned the easy way. A lot of things I learned by asking questions, reading policies, making mistakes, and refusing to give up until I found the answers.

That experience is what led me here.

Coles Compass Veteran Guidance was created to help veterans better understand their options. Whether you’re preparing for a career transition, trying to make sense of compensation and pension information, exploring education benefits, or simply looking for trusted resources, my goal is to share practical information that helps you make informed decisions.

I won’t pretend to have every answer, and I won’t promise quick fixes. Every veteran’s situation is different. What I can promise is a place built on honesty, respect, and a genuine desire to help fellow veterans find the information they need to move forward.

This page is just the beginning. Services are planned for 2027, but until then I’ll be sharing resources, lessons learned, and information I’ve found valuable throughout my own journey.
