it’s been a minute! grateful for 2025, it was a heck of a year.

thankful to each and every artist who trusted me with their work, and for the friends and family who were there even from afar.

learned so much about myself, my craft, and what it means to serve well. shared a lot of laughs and coffees with folks i love.

2025 also marked the biggest year of growth in my business so far, and i learned a lot from the growing pains.

We made a record 10 years ago! We’re celebrating Saturday, October 25, at Loose Cobra with Terminus Victor! Come hang with us in Tolono (a couple blocks from Earth Analog, where we recorded Keep It In the Dark with help from Colin and Isaac) 🤘🏽 by @colinalthaus

We're so excited to share our latest art project, circa•luna. 36 LaserDiscs. 24 custom circuit boards. 72 motors. 1 Raspberry Pi. Its mesmerizing movements are influenced by the phases of the moon, creating a unique experience depending on when you visit.

Spearheaded by @strangehandle with heavy collaboration by @calebmcl, it’s a permanent kinetic installation at The Pinnacle venue in Nashville and it’s the biggest and most complicated thing we’ve ever worked on. We spent the majority of the last two months learning, planning, designing and building this piece with very important assists from @colinalthaus and Geoffrey Gill.

Jason (@strangehandle) lead the team of artists and wore many hats, most notably concept, electrical design and custom code. His code not only made it possible for all 72 motors to move in complicated synchronized patterns but also for the piece to be reactive to the moon phases.

@calebmcl handled mechanical design and parts of the fabrication process including 3d printing, laser cutting and CNC work.

@colinalthaus helped design the custom PCBs (printed circuit boards) we used. Given the very tight timeline we only had one chance to get the design right and Colin pulled through.

Geoffrey Gill designed the structure that houses the entire system. Without his help we would have ended up with some kind of haphazard creation that did not do the core of our installation justice.

We're grateful too for the many friends who helped with assembling parts, painting the structure, filming bts and being supportive in so many other ways.

Alas, we can’t bring my friends to see it in person unless we’re going to an event at @thepinnaclenashville (which we'd love to do) so please enjoy this video. Looking forward to sharing more!

recently stumbled upon this record again from my old band @taraterra_ . we made this 10 years ago during my senior year of high school, and it was the second full length album i had ever recorded and mixed. i had no idea what i was doing really! strangely, it’s still one of the records i’m proudest of. something about the youthfulness of this album feels pure and timeless to me.

i was listening to a lot of Death Cab for Cutie - “Narrow Stairs” and The National - “High Violet” at the time and i think you can hear it in the aesthetic of the recording and mix.

we were lucky to record most of it at @earth_analog studio, thanks to @matttalbottmusing cutting us many late night discounts. Justin at @mystery_room_mke saved my butt on the mastering - definitely did not sound like that at the mix stage lol.

funny how sometimes once we “know more” we wish we could recapture the spirit we had when we “knew less”. anyone else feel similarly about their early work? by @colinalthaus

A few days ago we lost Mark Rubel, who was like the Mr. Rogers of audio engineering. A gentle and soft spoken man who constantly exuded brilliance, generosity, and wit. Every person received the same kindness and professionalism from Mark, no matter how young or inexperienced. Whenever you were around him, your dreams always felt a little more attainable because you got to be a part of his. His presence quite literally touched the lives of thousands of musicians and audio engineers, both in my hometown of Champaign, Illinois and at the Blackbird Academy in Nashville. He was one of the first people who inspired me to pursue a career in audio, and gave me professional opportunities to learn and grow. I wish there were more time to get to know him better, but I feel immensely lucky to have been in his orbit 💜 by @colinalthaus

2023! left my engineering / tech job to mix full-time. got to work on some amazing music with artists & producers i love. switched to Genelecs. made some new friends and reconnected with old ones. started therapy and ate a lot of delicious food.

also a difficult year. 4 year relationship came to an end. a mass shooting just up the street in Monterey Park. our family dog Mochi passed away at 14 years old.

despite that — i’m feeling a lot of gratitude for 2023. i learned so much and became more myself in ways i could have never expected. thanks for being with me on the journey 💜 by @colinalthaus
