Make music without touching a thing!👋😦

Join us for Hands Off: A Theremin Encounter! An Interactive Sound Experience from Another Dimension.🪐🛸👽

Come try the theremin — the original sci-fi sound — in a hands-on (but hands-off🫢) workshop led by UTSC's own Colin Boothby, a pro thereminist & community musician⭐️!

🛸 All theremins provided!
🗓️ thursday, july 31, 2025
🕰️ 3:30-4:30 pm
📍 AA 303 (third floor of the arts & admin building, next to student centre!)
🆓 Free to join — just show up!

Have you ever made music without touching a thing? Now’s your chance! Step into a retro-futuristic sound lab and learn to play the theremin, the instrument behind classic sci-fi soundtracks and some of the most iconic tones in music history.

Led by Colin Boothby (professional thereminist, community musician, and U of T PhD student) this workshop is your invitation to explore the theremin up close (but never too close). Colin will guide you through the motion-based technique of this one of a kind instrument, no prior experience needed.

🛸 What to Expect:
🎶 Interactive theremin lessons
📡 All instruments provided
📷 Live demos, photos, and videos from past events

Colin, a UTSC alum in Mental Health Studies and Music & Culture, has spent the last 6 years performing and teaching the theremin across Toronto — including his popular “Hands Off with the Theremin!” series at the Toronto Public Library.

🪐 Whether you're into music, sci-fi, sound art, or just curious, this experience is for you!
