Still amazed at all the opportunities that have come our way. This weekend CO-LLAB Choir took our first trip down to LA to perform alongside the @sundayservicecollective and @larussell for Grammy Weekend Benefit Brunch! Suite for Humanity was one of the most incredible musical experiences of my life. As a former violin and clarinet player I LOVE orchestral music. As a former Honor Choir kid I love choral music. @cavamenzies brought two of my favorite things to life in her composition of Suite for Humanity performed by the Oakland Symphony and members of @collab_choir leaving me in awe. The piece is written in three continuous movements and is intended to be both a cry for and an homage to humanity in these harrowing times. Movement one explores themes of genocide, war, power, greed, and political and social corruption amongst grief, compassion and belonging. Movement two explores the aftermath of rupture and how humans heal amidst tragedy. Movement three explores the nuances of the human experience and emphasizes that all aspects of human life that all humans are infinitely welcome and belong.It was incredible to witness the world premiere last November. @humanerightspodcast is all about getting back to humanity that we so desperately need this week, today, tomorrow and forever. Take the time to listen to Cava speak the truth and how her music gave her the words to speak the words that language can’t.
