For quite some time, I have been wanting to add a Tourbillon to my collection; but I wanted something special for this complication. And, the only watch brand that really checked all boxes for me was H. Moser & Cie @moserwatches, with their Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton (Ref. 3811-1200)

Unlike conventional tourbillons, with a flat hairspring, H. Moser presents us with a one-minute flying tourbillon, in a tall cage housing a cylindrical hairspring, which expands and contracts perpendicularly to the balance wheel, instead of laterally (as found in traditional flat hairspring).

Its steel case has a screw-down crown, and it is water resistant to 120 meters! At 12 o’clock, we find H. Moser trade-marked ‘Funky Blue’ fumé domed subdial😍

As beautiful as this piece is, there is another important factor that has made this acquisition a no-brainer, and that is the human factor behind the brand, from @edmeylan and @bertrand_meyland @claudio_terjanian who have gone above and beyond to make collectors feel welcomed, and part of their journey of growth, to the talented watchmakers responsible for servicing these masterpieces. And, I’m referring to @zimmermanwatchrepair Drew and Emily have been taking care of all my vintage pieces, for a few years now, and when I learned that they were selected to become the US service center for H. Moser & Ci, I knew they have the winning formula!

Shout out to @maxcamp2 for making this deal incredibly smooth!

3 pieces have left my collection in order to fund this stunner…I enjoyed them, but it was time to part ways.
Well, that’s it for now…time to enjoy this puppy!

POV: The only thing that I would change is the black alligator strap, for the Turquoise textile strap!

Once upon a time, you could walk into an AD and buy a 5711 brand new, under retail… and the dealer would actually thank you with a free Patek Philippe cap. 😂

That was 2015. No waiting list, no allocation games — just a discount and a hat on the way out.

Looking back, the watch market may have been the thing that melted the fastest ⌚️🍦

Some chronographs are collected for their name. Others for what they represent.

Long before the “Holy Trinity” became part of every collector’s vocabulary, Universal Genève had already established itself as one of the world’s great chronograph manufactures. During the 1930s and 1940s, the Compax helped define what a modern wrist chronograph should be—beautifully proportioned, technically advanced, and built for professionals, sportsmen, and enthusiasts alike. Its influence can still be seen in chronograph design today.

Universal Genève was renowned for giving its chronographs a distinctive visual identity, and this dial is a perfect example. After all, the dial is the soul of a vintage watch—and, more often than not, it’s the reason a watch earns a place in my collection.

Adding another layer of history is the engraved caseback commemorating the 1954 Mille Miglia and FIAT. Whether awarded to a participant, presented as a commemorative piece, or carried by someone connected to one of the world’s most legendary road races (1927–1957), it links this watch to the golden age of Italian motorsport—a time when chronographs were indispensable tools rather than nostalgic collectibles.

A sincere thank you to @mentawatches @jordan_menta @darin_menta. Another special piece from you guys, and, as always, it’s been a pleasure doing business with people whose knowledge, integrity, and passion for vintage watches make every acquisition that much more meaningful.

There was a time when Rolex got weird. And it was glorious.

This mid-1950s Oysterdate Precision Ref. 6466 packs an absurd amount of character into barely 30mm. But the real story is the dial.

What began life much darker has spent roughly seven decades slowly transforming into this incredible warm honey-brown hue, while the textured honeycomb pattern gives it another dimension entirely. Add the gilt details, applied dagger markers, oversized 6 and 9, and those sharp dauphine-style hands, and you get a dial Rolex simply doesn’t make anymore.

Then there’s the roulette date wheel, alternating red and black beneath the Cyclops — one of those wonderfully unnecessary vintage details collectors obsess over.

No oversized case. No hype. No trying too hard. Just a tiny, hand-wound Oyster from an era when Rolex experimented with textures, typography and details in ways that feel almost unthinkable today.

Finding a 6466 is one thing. Finding one with this honeycomb dial, this level of natural aging, gilt furniture, 6/9 configuration and roulette date is something else entirely.

30mm of Rolex, aged for 70 years.
The dial did the rest.

Long before GMT watch became an icon, @galletwatch was already thinking globally.

The Flying Officer was designed with international pilots in mind, combining a chronograph with a rotating world-time bezel decades before multi-time-zone watches became commonplace. Powered by the dependable Landeron 149, it represents a fascinating chapter in aviation horology that remains remarkably underappreciated today.

Sometimes the most rewarding discoveries are the ones history forgot to celebrate. Was the Gallet Flying Officer one of them? … not for long.

The Rolex Daytona didn’t become the world’s most coveted chronograph until the 16520 rewrote its story.

When Rolex introduced the Cosmograph Daytona reference 16520 in 1988, it marked one of the most important transitions in the brand’s history. After decades of manually wound Daytonas, the 16520 ushered the collection into the automatic era with the legendary Rolex Caliber 4030—an extensively re-engineered version of Zenith’s famed El Primero, refined by Rolex with more than 200 modifications to meet its exacting standards.

The white dial, framed by contrasting black registers, became one of the defining aesthetics of modern sports watch collecting. Its clean symmetry, balanced proportions, and unmistakable “Zenith Daytona” identity have earned it a place among the most celebrated chronographs ever produced.

More than a Rolex, the 16520 represents a turning point in horology—bridging vintage charm with modern engineering, and laying the foundation for the Daytona’s extraordinary legacy over the decades that followed.

Some watches tell the time.

Others tell the story of how history changed.

Not all Pepsi bezels are created equal.

Originally red and blue, decades of UV exposure transformed the red half into this unmistakable magenta (Fuchsia) hue—a natural evolution that simply can’t be manufactured. Pair that with the Long E dial, warm tritium lume, and careful wear earned over nearly six decades, and you have far more than a watch—you have a piece of Rolex history.

The 1675 wasn’t just built to tell time across continents; it became the blueprint for every GMT-Master that followed. Some watches age… the great ones develop character ✌️

This is why vintage collecting is so addictive.

Every now and then, a watch reminds me why I love collecting.

This Daniel Roth-era Breguet Classique Skeleton (Ref.3355), signed by Tiffany & Co., is one of those pieces. Presented in a 36mm case, it is a beautiful blend of traditional hand craftsmanship, mechanical artistry, and a remarkable chapter in Breguet’s modern history.

Grateful to be its current custodian.

A few weeks ago, I welcomed a true milestone into my collection: the Blancpain Villeret Split-Seconds (Rattrapante) Chronograph (Ref. 1186).

This isn’t just another complicated watch. When it debuted in the early 1990s, it changed watchmaking forever.

Inside its elegant 34mm case is the world’s first automatic split-seconds chronograph with both a column wheel and vertical clutch. At only 6.75mm thick, it also became the world’s thinnest automatic chronograph—a record that stood for decades.

The Ref. 1186 was one of Blancpain’s legendary Six Masterpieces, created during the remarkable revival led by Jean-Claude Biver and Frédéric Piguet. These watches helped reignite the passion for mechanical watchmaking and proved that haute horlogerie had a bright future.

This piece is especially meaningful because it joins my Flying Tourbillon (Ref. 23) and Ultra-Slim (Ref. 21)—three chapters of one of the greatest comeback stories in modern horology. The Perpetual Calendar and Minute Repeater are now firmly on my horizon.

A heartfelt thank you to @timeprovider Dito was fantastic throughout the entire trade, making what could have been a complex process feel seamless. Likewise, @collectors.corner.ny Wes was incredibly easy to deal with on the acquisition of Ref. 21

Some watches tell time.

A few tell the story of watchmaking itself.
