WATER MAP ISSUE 3: DRINKING WATER & SEWERAGE launches at 2026 Earth Day Fest!

While there has been a spotlight on flood protection and stormwater managment over the past two decades, headlines relating to failing water mains, boil water advisories, sewage leaks, saltwater wedges, and lead service lines are constant reminders that our drinking water and sewerage systems are as vital to our health and well being, and deserving of our care and attention.

Stop by the 2026 Earth Day Fest (2 to 8 p.m., April 22, at the @accneworleans at 2541 Bayou Road) to pick up your copy.

Many many many thanks to @frybrdn for capturing the essence of Room for Reading with his cinematographic eye. Fry also created an original score inspired by my note on Japanese new age and environmental music. Y’all I sent this man a 6-page vision board lol!

I had a lovely intro convo with @misstaylorhunter and @curleyarchive and mentioned my search for a videographer and they said they knew the one! Please check out both of these ladies work as well. Both are really talented and kind creatives.

Thank you always to my two favorite people - my partner Jeremy and our son for being volun-told to be part of the shoot and did so without hesitation. I love you both immensely.

Thank you to @tiffanysmithstudio @thehareinthemoon @e.ray.ceramics and @djmilafree for being such thoughtful day one supporters of this lil’ library. Please check out all of these creative humans work too. I’m in community with so many talented folks. Heavy on the grateful!

Hello new friends, old friends, day ones. Figured it’d be a good time to introduce myself. I’m Kurston, a lover of all things print and an avid reader. I also run an art + design studio - @collectionofcollections with my partner in life, love and creativity. But @room_for_reading is 100% solely my other other other baby. Lol!

I have never worked in publishing. I do like to write. I am not the best at it but I’ve become more comfortable letting people see me try. My childhood dream job was being a journalist. As a teen I wrote short stories and angsty poetry. I spent 6 life-changing summers going to a writing camp.

I started collecting independent magazines almost 10 years ago and have been obsessively collecting since. Pre-pandemic I had the idea to host friends in our space where we could drink tea, read, and have quiet conversations. 5 years and 1 child later I finally made my own dream come true. I turned our New Orleans home studio into Room for Reading, a lil’ magazine library. While it is not a retail space it is a RESOURCE space.

The collection spans across multiple countries, languages, perspectives and timelines. I always tell people all the things that inspire or intrigue you on the Internet you can find in the pages of these magazines. There really is a magazine for EVERYONE here. It’s an offline space for you to completely immerse yourself in the wonderful world of independent print and slow journalism.

I do hope I get to meet a lot of you whether you live in New Orleans or just visiting. We will be back in action October 18 so be on the lookout for the Open House + Weekly Hours announcement.

The homepage currently features 6 indie mags focused on food beyond recipes and the latest culinary trends. Each magazine presents histories, interviews, short stories, and the beauty of a shared meal.

🪜World-building at JAMNOLA. Jeremy turned a 10’ x 12’ x 25’ room into a drainage underworld. His process involved adding multiple layers of texture and paint to tell the story of the city’s sewer-filled underbelly. 🗒️ If you visit try to solve the vigenere cipher. by @collectionofcollections
