a painting I made from the land I was living on last October. A piece I wanted to hang in my home from the land I was living on- made from the land and displayed in the land. A personal piece.

Our beautiful West Texas community parading peacefully down 170. The last highway in the US - The most beautiful road in Texas. The road I live on. The road that is the state park. NO WALL. NO ROADS. NO WIRE.

Hey @governorabbott , We do not need a wall in Big Bend. That’s Fort Quitman to Lake Amistad- not just the National Park. Protect our Texas heritage, protect our private land, protect our public land, protect our river access. Don’t mess with Texas. Don’t mess with Big Bend.

Mariscal Scar
Big Bend National Park, Texas
144” x 60”
Soil, Water, and Pastel on Canvas.
2026

This piece is extremely emotional. I have been recording the geology of Big Bend for several years now with the earth paintings I make. I never thought I’d be recording the tracks of bulldozers and excavators within @bigbendnps . @nobigbendwall

This is the site just East of Mariscal Mountain that contractors have barreled through to create as of now a vehicle barrier system. There’s a reason why Big Bend is protected as a National Park. It’s heartbreaking to watch this irreversible unnecessary and reckless destruction.

Thank you @astromucho for photographing and documenting this process. We worked under starlight and moonlight as the sun rose yesterday morning.

*please note I followed Leave No Trace Ethics and did not use soil from within the National park. I used natural pigments sourced from private land in Terlingua, TX. taken in Big Bend National Park by @colleen_obrien
