THIS IS WHO I AM

Some flowers never get to bloom and see the day
Some flowers are content to wish their lives away
Some may rise and some may fall
But only you may ever see me true
So only you can tell that this is who I am
This is who I am

BE SMALL 🐌 GO SLOW

In a world that screams BIGGER FASTER MORE - it’s ok to go against the tide.
These 5 x 5 petit works pack a delightful punch of sensory delight. 4 pieces were donated & auctioned to support @BuffaloArtsStudio.

PETIT FRISSON

This new series of works of art began when I was creating 4 works for auction for Buffalo Arts Studio fundraiser Live at Five. Inspired - I haven’t stopped making them. You really have no idea where your creativity may take you.

Frisson [ French for “SHIVER”] also known as aesthetic chills or psychogenic shivers, is a psychophysiological response to rewarding stimuli (including music, films, stories, people, photos, and art) that often induces a pleasurable or otherwise positively-valenced affective state and transient paresthesia.

While frisson is usually known for being evoked by experiences with music, the phenomenon can additionally be triggered with poetry, beauty in nature and ART.

Smokin hot at the AKG Buffalo

Visited the @buffaloakgartmuseum this weekend and discovered the beautifully haunting exhibition by Adam Fuss.

“Adam Fuss is a contemporary British photographer. Known for his ethereal images created using a photogram technique in which objects are placed directly on light-sensitive painter, Fuss achieves a poetic sense of detachment and wonder throughout his work.”

Adam Fuss: Visual Resonance is curated by Godin-Spaulding Senior Curator for the Collection Holly E. Hughes

It’s not what I expected even though I had zero expectations.

I stepped into the work by James Turrell at ScMOMA and sat down. Curious. I didn’t get it. Like being left out of an inside joke. I took a moment and paused. Still didn’t get it.

By chance a local architect was in the space, we chatted and he shared with me his insight into Turrell’s work…….and I get it.

It’s like space, light and time but without all the noise and distractions. It’s quiet and subliminal. So take a deep breath and pause.

In a world that screams for your attention take notice of the quiet ones.

Visited the Broad Museum DTLA on a recent visit to LA. And like LA it was filled with mega watt super duper art stars like, Koons, Basquiat, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Condo and many more. Interestingly, this was my first experience of seeing Basquiats work in person. His work is omnipresent in our culture and see his influence on so many artists working today emulating his style.
But, After seeing his work in person. I get it.

Beyond the blue chip artwork there are captivating works that make a day at The Broad worth it.

DTLA

Interesting Eclectic and Challenging

It’s been about 20 + years since I’ve spent time exploring DTLA. There are moments of gorgeousness and brilliance set against utter brutality. LA is a city of juxtaposition- that has always fascinated me and brought me in. If you are willing to explore - it is a place like no other.
