From pro athlete to suspended for doping. From chasing medals…to chasing meaning.I was addicted to achievement, but no matter how much I won, it was never enough. Then I found the breath. It gave me back peace, presence, and purpose. Now I teach the thing I wish I’d known all along, the breath changes everything.#breathwork #redemption #transformation #athlete #healing by @collinchartier

I am guilty. I see the same with athletes I coach and with my friends. If you are like me and you are never satisfied with your race results, even when you do well, then you might have fallen prey to the “Psychological Trap of Improvement.”— DM me “IRONMAN” and I will send you the link the full conversation with @harnesscollective —You are training to achieve a sub 10 hour, sub 9 hour, or sub 8 hour Ironman. You are training to break 4 or 3 hours in your marathon. By focusing on a goal that is solely based on subjective social norms and comparisons, we rob ourselves of enjoying the moment. We focus on the outcome result rather than being present and accepting the things we can’t control in life. —99% of world’s population would be in awe of you JUST finishing the damn race. 99% of the your race experience is the actual training. Your health benefits, your fitness, your friends, your dedication, your commitment all come from the training. Your happiness is never found in the race result. #ironman #breathwork #triathlon #triathlete #hybrid #runners #runnersofinsta #runners_of_insta #performance by @collinchartier

Your “healthy habits” might be the very thing keeping you stuck.Training harder. Meditating daily. Biohacking everything. It looks like discipline but if it’s fueled by fear, it’s still addiction.I know because I lived it. As a pro athlete, I worshipped structure. But I wasn’t growing, I was hiding. When your habits become about avoiding stillness, discomfort, or not feeling enough, they stop serving you.Growth from fear shrinks you.Growth from love expands you.Choose wisely. #breath #breathe #breathwork #motivate #transform #addiction #fitnessaddiction by @collinchartier

Day 39We keep moving forward!Cheer on the little turtle at the end 🐢 For many of us, nothing feels better than receiving accolades, being acknowledged, or accomplishing a goal. In fact, there is a term, completion bias, that describes the powerful motivation to finish a task that comes from the release of dopamine stimulating our reward centers. The downside of this incentive is that when we do not complete the task, our critical inner voice flares up and leads to rumination, worry, and suffering. These thoughts interrupt our ability to keep our attention focused on our intention.James Doty - Mind Magic @herrenproject @betterbeingsus @reconwellness @clubfivehealth @tallowbourn @drinkdottir by @collinchartier

Day 38“For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself.” - Viktor FranklIn the past, when everything is riding on success I made poor choices. The hardest step is the first step towards a new path. And for me and maybe most of us, the hardest step is the internal one.I have ran through injuries many times, eventually leading to complete rest for extended periods of time and chronic pain. I was forcing outcomes instead of learning to listen, pivot, and continue. Today I am heading into to St Louis and getting an MRI.Tomorrow the plan is to resume the journey on Kevin’s mountain bike. Thank you all for the encouragement, messages, and support 🙏🏼This journey of life is not meant to be done alone. I couldn’t do it without you all. This journey, like recovery, is not linear. Obstacles, setbacks, challenges. We continue to focus on the next step.Thank you to my team!@herrenproject 🫶🏼@murphster152 @betterbeingsus @tallowbourn @clubfivehealth @reconwellness @drinkdottir @jihiwellness by @collinchartier

Day 35Not the news I wanted to share today. The body was speaking softly to me until after finishing yesterday’s run when it started to speak loudly. It’s time to listen. My resolve to reach DC is still strong, and to do it human powered, it just won’t be by running. Should I go on crutches the last 1,000 miles? Who has an off road wheel chair? “Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.” — @karagoucher And another quote I heard today from the book Mind Magic: “When everything is riding on a single result we can’t help but put tremendous pressure on ourselves to make it happen. And it’s hard to not be attached to the desired outcome. It is important to remember that attachment to results is just another form of fear.”The mission continues towards DC, towards recovery, towards hope. @herrenproject @jihiwellness @tallowbourn @drinkdottir @reconwellness @clubfivehealth by @collinchartier

Day 34A shorter day, just 28 miles. Many thoughts and time to contemplate.I have progressive left leg/thigh pain during these past 7-10 days. Tomorrow I will begin walking. We keep moving forward, one step at a time! There is a part of me that says I have failed. Failed to complete what I set out to do, to run the whole distance. The good news is, I also get to create the rules of my own run. So it’s time to walk. @herrenproject by @collinchartier
