Feeding the colony yesterday, Thursday. This is the closest I’ve ever gotten to Tara. In fact this summer, I’ve gotten closer to a lot of the ferals than I ever have before. This is important because this relationship building reveals which ones could actually be friendlies that are just super shy and scared, and could have future potential for rescue.

Just found out the hard way that one of my cats deposited a fresh load of vomit inside one of my slippers with the precision of a Boeing B-17F bombardier. Time to dust off the wok.

Violet using what I call the Wooden Bridge to cross the fence from the Safe Zone to the Freak Zone. Lots of freaks passing through this area, so that’s why the cats here are cautious.

This has happened so fast it made my head spin. I rescued Monday from the colony on Monday, August 10. This beautiful black kitten with dark copper eyes quickly proved to be the sweetest, cuddliest, most amazing kitten ever.

This Saturday she went to a café in San Francisco, where a group of young women watched me put her into a catio where she would acclimate the space, but not before I gave her a cuddle and a kiss and told her how awesome she was, because I suspected I might not see her again.

One of the young women who saw me do that fell in love with Monday the moment she saw her up close, and after a couple of visits, she realized she had to have Monday in her life. Today Monday is being officially adopted into her new home, and she will have a BFF in George, an orange boy cat who is just as cuddly and sweet as she is.

This photo was taken by her new mom during one of those visits, and you can see that Monday’s claws are out, as she was happily making biscuits.

I didn’t see Morgan anywhere when I showed up at the colony, but the moment I called his name he came running. And that’s his brother Wallace flopping around on the warm concrete, waiting to be fed.

A good horror movie with a cozy cat. What more could anyone ask? I watched The Girl With All the Gifts this evening, and Coates kept me company for the last hour of the movie. She was really well behaved (enjoying snuggling, and giving herself a long, luxurious bath), and despite the fact that she has a long way to go yet to be adoptable, she’s doing really well.

Miss Coates survived her first night, but I didn’t get a whole lot of sleep.

Coates has been vaccinated, she was given a combination tapeworm and dewormer, and she’s been given flea medication. She’s confused and a little upset, which is perfectly normal because she’s going to be away from her safe spot for the night, but she was remarkably easy to handle. She’s also being quite vocal about this outrage and will keep me up all night, but that’s OK.

Monday is safely tucked away inside a huge catio at the lounge, where will she will spend a few days acclimating to the place. This was another tough goodbye because she’s so special and cuddly, but she’s going to do great there and there are at least six other cats right around her age that she can play with which is going to be absolutely phenomenal for her.

Heading over to San Francisco with Monday and taking her to a cat café, where she’ll have lots of other cats and kittens to play with and where I know she will meet the people who will bring her to her forever home.
