✨ CHAPA STUDENT SPOTLIGHT ✨

Meet Samantha, PA-S2! 🌼🩺

Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Sam graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Physiology before working as a medical assistant in OB/GYN and primary care!

Since joining CHAPA, Sam has explored pediatric primary care, diabetes camp, and neuropalliative care, and is now gearing up for her first inpatient rotation in hospital medicine! 🏥

Beyond the classroom, Sam serves as a workgroup lead for the Women’s Health Clinic at DAWN and co-leads CHAPA’s Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Club! Her passion for women’s health advocacy stems from her research on sex differences in heart failure and her commitment to ensuring women’s voices are heard in healthcare. 💜

When she’s not studying or in clinic, you’ll find Sam playing pickleball or golf, exploring new coffee shops, enjoying the outdoors, or joining her classmates for their weekly volleyball nights! ☕️⛳️🏐

If she was an organ, she’d be the uterus because it is adaptable and strong, just like her! We’re so lucky to have Sam as part of our CHAPA community! 💛🖤

Happy PA Week! 🩺💙

We’re celebrating by getting out into our community! Our Voices in Medicine club and CHA/PA students spent the day at a local elementary school for PA for a Day, giving students a hands-on look at healthcare and what it means to be a PA.

Advocacy for our profession starts with education, connection, and showing the next generation that there’s a place for them in medicine. We’re so proud of our students for sharing their passion for the PA profession and helping inspire future healthcare providers right here in our community.

Happy #PAWeek to our students, faculty, preceptors, alumni, and PAs everywhere! 🩺✨

From the classroom to Capitol Hill! 🏛️🩺

Our first-year students and faculty traveled to Washington, D.C. for the annual AAPA Leadership & Advocacy Summit!

From connecting with PA leaders across the country to advocating on Capitol Hill, it was an incredible opportunity to learn about the issues shaping the future of the profession. ✨

Advocacy is an important part of being a PA. We strive to help our profession grow while supporting policies that better serve our patients and communities.

We are so grateful to our students and faculty for representing CHAPA and using their voices for the future of the PA profession! 💜 by @colorado_pa_program

With the HEME/IIM Block coming to an end this week, it's a great time to recognize and publicly thank our Guest Lecturers for their contributions. We're excited to spotlight Lucy Logan Spears, PA-C, Senior Instructor in the Division of Hematology and one of our valued guest lecturers and CHA/PA alum! 🖤💛

Since 2023, Lucy has shared her expertise in plasma cell dyscrasias, lymphoma, leukemias, and MDS with our students. Her favorite part of teaching?

"PA students have the best questions. I always learn something from them because they make me think of something I hadn't considered before."

When she's not caring for patients at the University of Colorado Blood Disorders and Cell Therapies Center, you can find her chasing after her three young children or dreaming of a perfect day filled with Pilates, coffee, and thrifting. ☕✨

Congrats to our Class of 2029 on officially receiving their white coats! 🤍🥼

A few weeks ago, our PA-S1s celebrated one of their first big milestones of PA school surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and classmates.

It's been tradition that Dave the Minion and his mom stop by the classroom for his annual well child check at the end of Summer Block. This year, Dad joined the appointment and Daddy Gru did not disappoint. It made for a fun and engaging learning experience for our PA-S1s. They are now enjoying a well deserved week off before returning to campus to kick-off HEME/IIM.

🌟 Guest Lecture Spotlight: Dr. Pan 🌟

Dr. Pan is a dedicated educator and expert in hematopathology who has been teaching with CHA/PA since 2022. Originally from the eastern coast of China, Dr. Pan earned a medical degree in Beijing before pursuing PhD training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Today, his clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis of lymphoma and blood cancers, while also providing expertise in head and neck pathology and frozen section diagnosis.

Dr. Pan lectures on topics including Introduction to CBC/WBC, Anemia, and Myeloid Neoplasms for CHA/PA. His favorite part of teaching? Interacting with students and answering their questions, and helping them connect classroom concepts to clinical practice.

When he’s not diagnosing complex blood disorders or teaching future PAs, Dr. Pan enjoys running, hiking, and scenic drives in the Colorado mountains. He especially loves Colorado’s breathtaking mountains and vibrant fall foliage. A daily listener of Colorado Public Radio Classical, he appreciates having great music accompany his drives.

And for a fun fact: if Dr. Pan could be any organ in the human body, he would choose a lymph node because, as he puts it, “It’s small but probably the most sophisticated organ in the human body.”
We’re grateful for Dr. Pan’s expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment to educating the next generation of healthcare providers. Thank you, Dr. Pan, for all you do for our students and our community!
