IMAX frames 🎞️ captured on Ektachrome E100.

Chose this stock so I could get positive like print to match collectible frames from the Odyssey.

Ektachrome is tough to work with, with only 5 stops of dynamic range and always surprising color shifts.

NEEDED color grading so I used CineDream.io app.

Scanned at 9K with sequential RGB setup (Arriscan/Lasergraphics standard) with b+w astronomy 🔭 camera @zwoasi and @tonephotographic carrier.

Chasing “blue hour” to capture IMAX 65mm frames on Pentax 6x7.

The same camera that Christopher Nolan used on the set of The Odyssey.

Finish grading with CineDream.

Wrapping the last shots from Odyssey shoot.

Sometimes getting older you feel like you’re “aging out.”

But then with graying you realize something…

You can play Matt Damon from the Odyssey 🤣

The length of the beard I don’t love it and want to shave 🪒

But I’m willing to do it for the art 🖼️

Here I’m loading Ektachrome 100 into Pentax 6x7 so we end up with positive slide frames for our IMAX film.

Follow to see full journey.

The first 8K scanned captures of fan film photoshoot with @kodak_shootfilm 500T 65mm film at 15 perfs.

Coincidentally used the same Pentax 6x7 camera that Christopher Nolan used as a “director’s viewfinder” on set of making The Odyssey.

Processed at @photosmithnh
Scanned with @tonephotographic
Finish grading in CineDream.io

Follow for further details and breakdown of process and setup.

Dropping off 65mm motion picture film to the lab.

Captured at 15-perf on medium format camera, i.e. same as IMAX 70mm in 1.43:1 aspect ratio.

These are just behind the scenes frames captured on iPhone.

You’ll be able to play around with the frames and get an idea of what’s it’s like to color grade The Odyssey on Kodak 500T 65mm film.

The lab I use @photosmithnh

I wanted to create a tool for the everyday filmmaker—one that makes color grading accessible and intuitive.

Try CineDream and let me know if I achieved that goal. #colorgrading #filmmaking by @colorgrading

Nolan’s commitment to analog extends even to the color grade. #theodyssey #filmmaking #imax #colorgrading by @colorgrading

Do you really need an ARRI Alexa?

Don’t get me wrong—the footage those cameras produce is incredible, and ARRI’s color science is outstanding.

But often, what you really need isn’t the most expensive camera. It’s better color grading.
Case in point: I’m having a blast grading iPhone 17 footage.
