When an 18th-century altarpiece or early photographic archive undergoes restoration, the technical decisions made in the studio rely heavily on shared knowledge, material testing, and comparative data. The COLOURS project is establishing an open-access Colour Knowledge Repository alongside a suite of open-source digital tools for European cultural heritage. We invite conservators, museum staff, and researchers to join our newly launched professional group on LinkedIn. Share your current studio projects, discuss material bottlenecks, and get direct updates on upcoming project milestones. 👉 Request access here: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/34000003/ by @colours_eu
How can digital technologies help reconstruct a lost work of art? 🏛️ The recent digitisation campaign at Bratislava City Gallery / @galeria_mesta_bratislavy (GMB) focused on a group of wooden polychrome sculptures that once formed the main altar of the Jesuit Church in Bratislava, created by J. A. Eglauer in the first decades of the 18th century. After the altar was dismantled in the 19th century, the sculptures followed different paths before entering the GMB collection. Within @colours_eu , these objects are now part of two pilot activities: digital recomposition and restoration simulation, and an XR experience letting visitors explore the complete altar as it once looked. 3D digitisation by @cnrsocial ISPC using photogrammetry, with support from GMB — colour management workflow supervised by @ntnu 🎨 👉 Full story: link in bio This project is part of the #ECCCH initiative, coordinated by the @echoes_eu project. #COLOURSEccch #CulturalHeritageCloud #EchoesEccch #DigitalHeritage by @colours_eu
From presentation to hands-on — This week in Ljubljana, the COLOURS team put seven digital tools in the hands of conservators-restorers and asked them to tell us exactly what works and what doesn't. That's how you build tools that actually get used. Full story → link in bio. A big thank you to the @zvkds_ipchs and @ecco.eu teams for hosting and for the warm welcome in Ljubljana. What happens when 200 partners from 30 countries meet in Poland? If last week’s ECHOES Second Annual Event was anything to go by, the answer is a shared future for Europe's history. The COLOURS team joined @echoes_eu and sister projects in Poznań to discuss how the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) can ensure a 400-year-old painting or a fragile silent film is never lost to time. Our coordinator, Daniele Ferdani from CNR ISPC - Institute of Heritage Science, joined the "Cultural Heritage Cloud ecosystem" panel moderated by Mailane Sampaio. It was a moment to show how we are all working towards the same goal: making world-class conservation tools available to every museum in Europe, no matter their size. Want to be part of the journey? 🎨 It all started here. Last December, the COLOURS EU Project team gathered for the first time in Florence at ISPC-CNR for our kick-off meeting — 11 partner organisations, 9 European countries, one shared mission. We're building AI-powered tools to preserve and restore Europe's coloured cultural heritage: from ancient frescoes and polychrome sculptures to historic textiles and films. Excited for what's ahead. Stay tuned! 🔗 colours-eccch.eu #CulturalHeritageCloud #EchoesEccch #HorizonEurope #DigitalHeritage #Restoration #COLOURSEccch by @colours_eu
