Brewing bright and beautiful coffees ✨
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Had plenty of fun at @coffeeomakase on Friday. The best part for me was just meeting like-minded people in a peaceful setting and getting to chat coffee like proper nerds. Particularly enjoyed trying the same origin of coffee but with different processes (Elto, Ethiopia), had my best soup shot yet (brewed on Aeropress) and got an introduction into Gongfu tea brewing. Spoiler, I might be hooked.
Thanks Kevin! I’ll be back for more 🤪 by @colt_coffee_

A very delicate gesha with subltle fruit and citrus notes and plenty of florals. A really nice expression of Panama gesha. I made sure to leave one serving in the freezer. by @colt_coffee_

Roaster: @helmcoffeeroasters
Location: Ecuador (Finca Del Putushio, Jose Jijon)
Variety and process: Typica Mejorado - Washed
Tasting notes: Lemonade • Wildflower honey • Fruit punch• Dragon fruit

I was introduced to Helm via a great cupping session at Calico and their Ecuador origins really stood out on the cupping table for me. This was so clear and with such great acidity, it felt like as close to lemonade a coffee can get. A real highlight. by @colt_coffee_

It was a privilege to try so many coffees from @lamastusfamilyestates last night as part of their First Light sample set. Really enjoyed seeing how the different micro terroirs and processing changed the expression of their coffee.

Thank you to @panda_bear_xcp for bringing these coffees to London

And big thank you as always to Johnny and the team at @calico_coffee_uk for hosting another great event. by @colt_coffee_

Pourover heaven at @omacoffeeroaster
It’s only a small space, but packs a very big punch with a fantastic pourover selection as well as a great retail selection from their own roastery.

I had a Natural Janson that was expertly brewed and couldn’t resist bagging myself some Altieri to brew at home.

Roaster: Oma
Location: Panama (Janson, Lot 188)
Variety and process: Geisha - Cold Fermented Natural
Tasting notes: Orange blossom • Tangerine • Mango • Blossom honey

Fantastic event at @calico_coffee_uk on Saturday with a bar takeover from @masiuyeung - Swiss Brewer’s Cup and Coffee in Good Spirits Champion 2026.

I loved that Suki offered a filter flight, not only a chance to taste 3 different coffees, but also tasting each alongside one another only helped to highlight their individuality.

Coffee 1: Altieri Ale, Panama • Geisha • River Flow Natural (white grape, nectarine, white wine)
Coffee 2: Lerida Lot 278, Panama • Geisha • Natural (grapefruit, plum, black tea)
Coffee 3: La Negrita, Colombia • Sidra • Nitrogen Natural (reg grape, forest strawberry, red wine)

I really loved the journey from clean to funk and was amazed at the wine-like taste of coffee 1 and 3. Coffee 1 (Altieri Ale) was my favourite and one of the best coffees I’ve ever tried. What was unique about this geisha is that the cherries are fermented (whole) using the cold, natural current of a river that runs through the Altieri estate. This made for a super clean, clear, crisp acidity and if blindfolded you could convince me it was white wine! Wow. I enjoyed the other two coffees too, probably the Lerida more so than the Negrita which was a bit funkier than I usually like, but they made for a perfect set to take the drinker on a journey and explore different levels of processing on naturals.

Thank you 🙏 by @colt_coffee_

Roaster: @specialguestscoffee
Location: Panama (Lost Origin x Lerida)
Variety and process: Geisha - Depulped
Tasting notes: Blackcurrant • Plum • Dark chocolate

Sometimes it can be hard to justify buying just 24g of coffee but this was very much worth it and right up my street. Deep, dark juicy flavours - this had a richness unlike anything I’ve tasted before. This is actually the first Lost Origin coffee I’ve tried and now it’s got me curious to explore more. Initially I was worried the flavour might be too process-forward but that wasn’t the case at all for me. In fact, it felt like the processing took the intensity of Lerida’s geisha to a different level.

I also found it interesting how this Special Guests coffee seemed to be roasted a fair bit lighter than some coffees I’d purchased before (from a year or so ago) which is a change I’m very much feeling.

Kotowa is a name that I’ve repeatedly heard in coffee but not yet tried, so when I saw a Geisha of theirs on Calico’s latest pourover menu I took the opportunity to try it.

The name Kotowa comes from the indigenous Ngäbe language, meaning “mountain” which refers to the volcanic soil, and cool misty climate that define these coffees.

This washed Geisha was a beautiful lot from Las Brujas, El Salto featuring bright pear acidity, balanced by delicate jasmine notes and honey sweetness.

A clear and elegant cup that expresses so much of what I enjoy about Panama Geisha.

Roaster: @the_picky_chemist
Location: Colombia (El Turpial)
Variety and process: Geisha - Washed, double-fermentation
Tasting notes: Red fruits • Jasmine • Grapefruit

My first Picky Chemist coffee and hopefully not the last - his drops can go like hotcakes and I can see why. This was an incredibly flavourful coffee, bursting with floral notes up front, followed by a balance red fruit sweetness and citrus acidity. One of the highlights of my coffee year so far.

@scenerycoffeeroasters - Ethiopia (Megadu) - Landraces - Static Cherry
@helmcoffeeroasters - Ecuador (Del Putushio) - Typica Mejorado - Washed
@helmcoffeeroasters - Ecuador (La Josefina) - Sidra - Anaerobic Honey
@seycoffee - Ecuador (Finca Soledad) - Mejorado - Washed

Setting up a cupping of some amazing examples of Ecuadorian coffee with something a bit funky from Scenery for contrast. The Scenery was probably a bit boozier than I’d usually like, but I love their roasts and this still had some delicate floral notes. The two coffees from Helm are so clear and complex, with strong acidity balanced by sweetness and subtle florality. And the Sey Mejorado - one of my favourite recent coffees.
